Profile: www.linkedin.com/in/thomasalexandertech Career
Summary: I have
more than seven years of experience as an end user content development
specialist in the technical writing capacity at Cognizant Technology Solutions,
US Corporation. My content development and technical writing experience
includes developing user guides, online help, training materials, technical
guides, process documents, and maintaining a document repository system. I
am highly proficient in working in an Agile Scrum project environment
wherein the entire spectrum of end user content development must be
performed in close coordination with the project stakeholders in sprint
iterations. My
documentation career encompasses the following arenas: ·
Analytical
research of the requirements with project stakeholders for the formulation
of end user documentation deliverables for a specific target audience. ·
Creation
of structured forms of knowledge bases through end user guides and other
application/process supporting materials. ·
Refinement
of end user content for future versions by collecting feedback through
business review sessions and editorial review exercises involving project
stakeholders as well as end users. Education: I have
a Master’s degree in English Language and Literature from Madras Christian
College, Tamil Nadu, India. As part of the domain-specific Level 0
Assessment and Certification program conducted by Cognizant, I have
successfully completed L0 certifications in Technical Writing and Life
Sciences. Authoring
Knowledge and Tools Training: I have
undergone extensive training in end user content development using industry
standard documentation tools, template and style sheet creation, and online
webhelp content development. I am trained on some of the most widely used
help authoring tools including Adobe FrameMaker, RoboHelp, MadCap Flare,
Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline and Author-it. I have
extensive knowledge in strategically developing content to varied audiences
in the form of system administration and end user documentation. I have
developed help solutions in varied formats leveraging my expertise in
strategically developing and organizing content to suit specific project
needs. This involved interacting with project stakeholders which include
the Executive Management, Program Directors, Technical Writing Managers and
Developers to gather information and strategically transform the
information into end user content deliverables. Project
Case Study: I have
worked on a project for a high visibility health care client based out of
Waltham, Massachusetts for a product documentation project spanning over
two years. I worked with the client Documentation Manager and Senior
Technical Writer during the project tenure. I was assigned to develop
extensive end user content to an audience that comprised Managed Care
Organizations, Health Plan Providers, Physicians, Nurse Practitioners,
Health care Administrators and System Administrators in USA. I
strategically developed content and managed the product knowledge
dissemination through structured forms of documentation. The project
deliverables included installation guides, end user guides, release notes,
concept guides, data table guides and system administrator guides.
Throughout the project I performed the role of a strategic end user content
developer as the reach of the documentation was to a large and varied
audience in the health care space. I worked closely with the client
Technology Lead, Program Manager, Business Analysts, Developers,
Documentation Manager and Senior Technical Writer to successfully manage the
end user content development for three major releases of the health care
product suite. The project was highly critical to the client as the
application suite documentation was consumed by customers through the
client’s global website. Onsite
Experience: Ø Fossil
Headquarters in Richardson, Texas Ø Jack In
the Box Headquarters in San Diego, California Ø JP
Morgan Chase Corporate Office in Columbus, Ohio Ø Liberty
Mutual Insurance in Portsmouth, New Hampshire I have
worked on an onsite assignment in Portsmouth, New Hampshire for one of the
largest property and casualty insurance companies in USA. The duration of
this project was more than six months wherein I was assigned to
strategically develop and structure the content to be packaged in the form
of end user documentation to user audiences in USA and Canada. The
deliverables for this project included end user guides, training guides,
online help (WebHelp) using RoboHelp 11 and interactive learning snippets
using Articulate Storyline. I coordinated with the Director of Training,
Senior Training Specialist and all other project stakeholders for the
successful creation and knowledge dissemination of end user content through
structured channels such as the WebHelp which was newly conceptualized and
implemented. In addition to the creation of WebHelp and other end user help
content, the style guide was extensively updated and training materials
were newly developed to accommodate the revised help content strategy for
legacy purpose. After
the successful stint in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, I was assigned to work
with one of the largest banking firms in USA at Columbus, Ohio. Working at
the client site, I was involved in creating end user process documentation
for a database element certification process. The effective interaction
with the Data Stewards, Project Manager, Technology Lead and Data Architect
proved critical to the success of this project as it was a newly deployed
process within the client company. In addition to end user content
development, I performed the role of a content curator for the newly
deployed SharePoint site for the project. Since the database element
certification process was at its inception, end user documentation
templates were created and extensive editorial as well as formatting
reviews were performed to standardize the documentation suite. The end user
guides created for the database element certification process facilitated
data stewards to successfully certify each database element as per the
parameters defined by the firm’s consumer banking data management council. I was
assigned to work in San Diego, California at the headquarters of one of the
leading restaurant chains to document the client’s updated point of sales
system. This assignment involved the creation of technical product
documentation in the form of installation manuals, troubleshooting guides
etc. Templates and documentation guidelines were created to successfully
roll out the documentation suite for the updated point of sales system. After
the stint at San Diego, California, I was assigned to work remotely from
Houston, Texas for a large insurance company in Hawaii. In this assignment,
I developed extensive process documentation and end user documentation
working closely with the client Release Manager and the product development
team. The deliverables included Release Management Guides, Process Guides
and End User Guides. I was
assigned to work at the headquarters of one of the largest designer watch,
clothing and accessories manufacturers in USA. Located at Richardson,
Texas, I worked at the client site collaborating with the Learning and
Development team to develop interactive training content using Articulate
Storyline 2. The deliverables were in the form of training modules for a
newly developed POS (Point Of Sales) system which was planned to be rolled
out to retail outlets in USA and Canada. The training modules were aimed at
acquainting Store Managers and Sales Personnel with the new POS to perform
store functions. |
