Thomas A. Parker tomparker@personaltelemetry.com (512) 839-4224 Senior Software Developer – GIS
Consultant
Polished software development
leader and GIS consultant with a consistent history of delivering successful
software projects in many disciplines including GIS, IOT, business
intelligence and visualization. Over 20 years in data analytics and
visualization development for the energy industry, business intelligence and
numerous military projects. Practiced in gathering requirements, adapting
software development goals to meet meaningful, achievable targets and then
delivering final products that exceed customer expectations. Fully
experienced in leading hybrid onshore and offshore development teams using
Agile/Scrum methodologies.
Professional Experience
Cofounder
In January 2013
started developing a new Azure application ecosystem to deliver cloud-based
GIS/BI solutions, fusing the best of Azure, open source GIS and visualization
technologies. The application is a conceptual port of the 3DEVS application
delivered to the Air Force in 2005 to an Azure cloud application supporting
web and mobile clients. The WebApp provides
a management portal to a set of operations that run in Azure as WebJobs or
Runbooks. Each of the operations is a distinct business process; for example,
the data collection system uses Azure WebJobs to collect data from any
available source and then to store the data in Azure SQL Server, Storage
Blobs, Tables or Queues. Depending on the data object and which storage
system is used, there can be associated triggers that run WebJobs in the
background to customize processing the data as needed. Once the data is
loaded in Azure, we can push the data out to our PostGIS servers for GIS
analytics or we can stage the data for processing in Azure BI. The results of
any of these operations can then be retrieved as Json data and visualized in
d3 or OpenLayers maps. Technologies: C#, MVC, Azure
WebApps, WebJobs, SQL Server and Storage, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, d3,
OpenLayers, NTS, PostGIS, TFS, Git
Software Development Technical
Lead
Senior software
developer, sales engineer and solutions architect for a team that built a
complete ETL, analytics, reporting and visualization application sold to CPG
vendors worldwide. The application was deployed in several configurations, on
the customer’s own servers, or on VMs at RackSpace or AWS. The application
consumed data from 80 different retailer POS systems, Nielsen, IRI, SAP and census
data, fusing it into one or more SQL Server databases. After data loading is
completed for each time period, advanced analytics were performed to support
business operations like sales and category analysis, forecasting, demand
calculations or to identify locations with out-of-stock issues. The system
also used SSIS to send data to SSRS for reporting or SSAS which was
configured by customer to build any cubes they wanted from the fused data
sources. Developed all of the visualizations and dashboards in DevExpress or
Dundas visualization tools. Used ASP.Net MVC and d3 to build web portals to
the data warehouses for secure, self-service user retrieval of reports and
dashboards. Technologies: C#, DevExpress,
Dundas, PowerShell, SQL Server, SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, TeraData, Oracle, SQLite,
TFS, Git
Principal Technical Consultant Developed geospatial desktop and web
applications for various energy companies and Oklahoma state agencies. Some
examples include: ·
Lease
tracking application used to identify which parcels contained a list of
wells. The output of the ArcGIS app was a report showing lease and well
ownership which was then distributed as an SSRS report. ·
DEQ is
required to report annually an analysis of all water intake sources in
Oklahoma for any new hazards near them, such as new oil wells or new roads.
The coordinates of the intakes were analyzed against the underlying geology
database to determine how long the intake would be safe if there was an
accidental spill nearby. The resulting map and analysis were then embedded in
an SSRS report and emailed to each of the 900 responsible water authorities
in the state and the DEQ. ·
Pipeline
analysis application for quadrennial pipeline route and hazard map updating
using ArcGIS and current satellite imagery. Technologies: C#, Python,
JavaScript, GDAL/OGR, ArcInfo, ArcIMS, ArcSDE, SQL Server, SSRS
Principal Technical Consultant/Sales
Engineer
Under contract to the Parsons Corporation,
developed a geospatial four-dimensional environmental visualization system
(called 3DEVS) for the Air Force Environmental Management Directorate to
allow visualization of air pollution modeling datasets in an interactive 4D
application. This system is used by Facilities Management to protect Air
Force personnel and nearby civilians from exposure to dangerous chemicals and
other toxins. Technologies: C++, Python, VTK,
AVS/Express, GDAL/OGR, ArcInfo, ArcSDE, SQL Server
Principal Systems Engineer Provided sales and technical support,
training, and professional services for AVS visualization toolkits and applications.
My primary customers were the Oil and Gas industry; building visualization
applications for seismic analysis, basin modelling, reservoir simulation,
pipeline analysis and financial analysis.
Shaped
company direction and managed commercial and government accounts and all
academic entities in North America. Authored custom visualization
applications for various clients, working onsite and remotely.
Developed software solutions for a broad and diverse customer base including
solutions in business intelligence, data warehousing, energy exploration,
environmental mapping, military mapping, engineering, manufacturing, medical,
and scientific fields. Technologies: C, C++, Python,
AVS/Express, GDAL/OGR, Oracle, ArcSDE
Project Lead/Senior Software
Engineer
Integrated the content development engine
previously created for Electromap with The Learning Company’s existing
product bringing to market Compton’s Interactive World Atlas 1.0 1997
Edition application. Project leader and lead programmer in the
development of the first atlases for the PC market to be marketed to various
software publishers. Formally recognized by company directors for
consistently delivering finished projects on time and under budget.
Developed a content publishing engine that automated much of the manual
cartography and database work, reducing production time and errors. The
engine prompted The Learning Company to acquire Electromap in September of
1995 for the sole purpose of obtaining this content publishing engine. Technologies: C, C++, MFC Education/Training
