·               Designed cloud based control system to manage IoT load management devices at client sites as part of the automated load management service.

·               Designed a new provisioning process to automate purchasing and supply chain activities, reduce/eliminate errors in specifications and minimize the time to provision a new revenue generating customer.

·               Designed gateway to cloud communications alternatives to support either low cost high-bandwidth broadband connectivity or higher cost lower bandwidth cellular connectivity.

·               Built a demonstration center to provide live demonstrations of energy management, automated load management, and fault detection to prospects.  This demonstration center included the provisioning of two client office towers with load and energy management equipment and the associated gateways.

·               Created the first connected-car application designs that leveraged vehicle information to enhance driving, ownership, and purchasing experiences.

·               Utilized operable prototypes to demonstrate business case merits and lower potential risks related to new technology.  Examples include:

o            Created the first, customer-centric, mobility application designs using existing B2C to identify new opportunities and working prototypes to validate business value and technical capability.

o            Created prototypes to demonstrate how to native and web application technologies could be used to create a single code base supporting multiple device types.

o            Developed prototypes to demonstrate synergistic technologies such as QR Codes and Near Field Communication.

·               Developed a cloud based website to support prototype demonstrations and disseminate support collateral.

Major Environment Technologies

Lead Architect, Application Integration Management Group, GPSC, GM (2006-2009)

The I.T. Purchasing and Supply Chain supporting function had been reorganized to bring the formally autonomous regions (North America, Europe, Asia, and Middle East) under global administration.  As part of this effort the mandate of the new global function was to rationalize the portfolio of applications to reduce operational costs, provide better response to business demands, and enable potential economies of scale from a global, rather than regional, supply chain.

Created the roles and responsibilities, wrote position descriptions, interviewed, hired, and managed team of ten architects in North America, Europe, and Asia.

Created business intelligence, ODS and data warehouse strategies, and build best practices and guidance to support effective use of Oracle SOA Suite, ESB, and EAI tools.

Introduced architectural governance to ensure compliance of all development efforts with approved architectural guidelines and standards and lead in the provision of architectural governance to over 100 development projects per year involving a wide range of purchased and custom mid-range and mainframe applications.

Introduced twenty five initiatives that were designed to improve development efficiency and effectiveness, implement new quality control processes, and convert the waterfall SDLC to an incremental/agile supporting process by combining segmented enterprise architecture with Rational Unified Process plan/define activities.

Created Mentor Program that teamed senior architects with junior architects as needed to improve their understanding of mid-tier and mainframe technologies and technology compliance goals and to help with collaboration within the new and complex multi-vendor multi-client matrix model.

Through briefings and presentations, interacted with executive management to align architecture activity and recommend opportunities to improve I.T. delivery quality while reducing development and sustain costs.

Rated “superior” in performance reviews (see References section).

EDULINX (Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce Company), Toronto, Ontario               2001 – 2005

Senior Technology Consultant to the VP

In 2001 EDULINX acquired a large government student loan contract, more than doubling the volume of student loans it had to process.  At the time, all operations were supported by only a flat-file based MVS mainframe system originally built to handle automobile loans and then extensively modified.  The challenge was to create a mid-tier, object oriented, java based set of application components that can be easily reused by future efforts.

Directed the creation of a new mid-tier/mainframe development capability providing architecture, design, and task planning guidance to all mid-tier and mainframe resources.

·               Took direct control over the first, mission critical, project efforts, redesigning all mid-tier to mainframe access, to achieve throughput targets, and redeveloping project plans to meet delivery commitments.

·               Created a plan to replace existing, non-object-oriented, objects with re-usable o-o objects that introduced the replacement gradually by incorporating into planned projects.   This was completed after 18 months.

·               Replaced custom development practices with frameworks that supported authentication/authorization and encapsulation of rules.

·               Mentored all development staff in effective J2EE-Mainframe integration development best practices, integrated development planning, performance testing, and operational support.

Windows, MVS, AIX, UNIX, Tivoli Access Manager (TAM), Rational Rose, Rational Product Suite (Robot, XDE), DB2, MYSQL, FILENET, Lotus Notes, Apache, Tomcat, WebSphere Application Server (WAS), WebSphere Application Developer (WSAD), Eclipse, MQSeries (MQ-Series), IAM/VSAM, CICS, COBOL, JAVA (J2EE), WSBCC, Rightfax, Crystal Reports, Report Mill, XML, ILOG JRULES, Host On Demand, Hostbridge.

Various Companies                                   pre-2001

Strategic Planning, Application Development, Database Administration

A small summary of accomplishments while working for various companies in Montreal and Toronto Canada.

·                 For a manufacturer of pharmaceutical software I was responsible for the design, development, and support of e-commerce and client-server applications to support a new service that provided drug related information (ex: drug interactions) across a comprehensive base of prescription and cross counter medications.   The client-server application was the first mobility application to utilize an Internet based server to provide data services.

·   As the infrastructure delivery lead I evaluated, selected, and delivered the infrastructure to support the first three years of operations of a new backend application that would sell products utilizing the bank’s ATM machines.

·   Working for a manufacturer of software utilities I was responsible for converting a tightly coupled MVS-Tandem high speed transfer utility to a loosely coupled modularized product that included new modules for the DEC-VAX, HP-UX, AS/400, and PC platforms.

·   As the systems planning manager I introduced a new strategic planning methodology that was used to identify five years of I.S. development projects. Initiated over 20 projects representing $7 million in development effort and recovering over $5 million in annual savings.

·   As the database administration manager I lead a team in the implementation of a new DBA group that included the development of database design and tuning guidelines, change control processes, chargeback mechanisms, as well as the development and support of 14 large production databases.
