Florida Power and Light Company is the largest electric utility in Florida and one of the largest regulated utilities in USA. As part of their Enterprise SOA Adoption program, they have partnered with Cognizant to migrate and upgrade their existing Integration Interfaces (spanning across various business divisions) built using Java CAPS to Oracle Fusion Middleware.

In addition to migration, FPL has mandated that all new integration interfaces should be built on Oracle Fusion Middleware.

 

As a member of FPL’s Core Enterprise SOA and Application Integration Team, following are my job role and responsibilities:

1.       Understand FPL’s existing Application Landscape and portfolio of Integration Interfaces built in JCAPS

2.       Propose, define and design Oracle Fusion Middleware based solutions for various use case scenarios such as

Project Description

Harmony Integration Workstream project integrates Oracle CRM OnDemand Application hosted in the cloud with Siebel on premise application leveraging Oracle Service Bus as the integration layer. It’s a combination of Web Service, File and Queue Based integration. Pharma/Medicine Sales representatives enter their Activity data in their iPads using Oracle iSales Mobile client which in turn syncs the data with Oracle CRM OnDemand hosted in the cloud. OSB services extract/pull data from CRM OnDemand Application using Web Services. The extracted data is transformed to MCDI format and finally a CSV file is generated which is then fed to on-premise Siebel Application for further downstream processing.

Role and Responsibilities

 

·          Responsible for project transitioning from Application Development (AD) Vendor (Accenture) to Application Maintenance (AM) vendor (Cognizant)

·          Understanding the overall Technical Design and Architecture of the interfaces and provide KT to the offshore team. Also provide reverse KT to the AD team

·          Conduct Training sessions on Oracle Service Bus for the team members to bring them up to speed on the tool. Provide them detailed level code walkthrough for all the interfaces that has to be maintained and enhanced.

ALLETE Inc., headquartered in Duluth, Minnesota, is a mid-market utilities company engaged in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power in the United States. As part of their Business Process Optimization program, they partnered with Infosys to deliver an IT solution to optimize their Business Processes and design integration solution to integrate Oracle E-Business Suite, IBM Maximo and other 3rd Party Applications leveraging Oracle SOA Suite 11g and Oracle Service Bus. The scope of work for Infosys was to architect and design SOA integration interfaces and an error handling framework to capture interface errors.

 

·          Define an Enterprise Application Integration Strategy and propose a solution to eliminate Point-to-Point integrations in the IT system landscape.

·          Liaise with ALLETE IT Team and Onsite Technical Architect to understand and document current state integration architecture and the issues and pain points.

It has embarked on a plan to implement an Outage Management System to help respond to outages and provide customer feedback on boundaries of outages and estimated restore time, by integrating its Call Taking IVR application to Oracle Utilities Network Management System, leveraging SOA Suite 11g and OSB as the Middleware Platform.

 

·          Lead the offshore SOA Integration team to develop 2 Integration Interfaces (Call Taking and Outage Status Update integration of IVR application with Oracle Network Management System) and a Generic SOA Error Handling Framework to capture errors in the interfaces, persist the input payload and send error notification to users.
