Michael Wynn

Full Stack Software Engineer | H: 951-268-7877 | vrcmwynn@hotmail.com

Professional Summary

As a full-stack software engineer I have a tenacious passion for harnessing computing technology toward business processes streamlining.  A unique skill set (in business processes, project execution and software development technologies) had enabled me to innovate and materialize several large-scale, culture-changing software solutions for previous employers.  I’m looking for opportunities to work on meaningful team projects, especially ones where modern software technologies are encouraged.

Technical Competencies

Microsoft .Net Framework

·   10+ years of experience with Microsoft.Net Framework, from 1.0 – 4.5

·   Intimately knowledge and hands-on experience with most major components of the .Net framework and add-ons, including: ASP.Net MVC, ASP.Net Web Forms, Web API, EF, MEF, WCF, WF, WPF, SignalR, and Win Forms

Programming Languages

·   Expert / near expert: C#, Visual Basic, JavaScript.  Some of advanced techniques mastered: multi-threading, lazy data loading, asynchronous flow control (e.g. JavaScript Promises), IoC (Inversion of Control), TDD/BDD (Test Driven Design / Behavior Driven Design), MVC (Model-View-Controller design pattern), web sockets

·   Comfortable: HTML5, CSS3, MS SQL scripting , MS Office VBA, Oracle database scripting, MySQL scripting, Bash shell scripting

·   Familiar: LESS, CoffeeScript, TypeScript, C++

Development Environments and Tools

·   OS’s: Windows & Linux

·   IDE systems: MS Visual Studio (Windows / 10+ years), Web Storm (Linux & Windows / 2 years)

·   Source control: Git, MS Foundation Server, Visual Source Safe

·   In-browser debugging: F12 tools in model browsers (Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox)

·   On-line resource tools: MS Visual Studio Gallery, NPM, Bower, fiddler

·   Performance & scalability test tools: Visual Studio tools, Apache Benchmark, wrk (Linux)

Front End

HTML Clients / Mobil Hybrids

·   SPA: intimate knowledge of modern SPA (Single-Page Application) architecture; have worked on highly-complex proof-of-concept models using Angular, Node JS, and test tools such as Karma and mocha.  Although SPA development demands much higher JavaScript skill than traditional web pages, SPA’s generally offers superior user experience and scalability (as presentation layer is at client machines rather than servers).

·   Angular: deep understanding of its philosophy, features, capabilities, limitations, performance issues and workarounds.  I’m capable of building highly complex Angular directives.

·   Cordova (formerly Phone Gap): fundamental familiarity with its architecture, capabilities and limitations.

·   Responsive UI:  know how to achieve responsive UI (i.e. automatically adapt to various screen sizes from mobile phones to full desktops) using CSS3 and Twitter Bootstrap.

·   Collaborative UI: know how to design collaborative applications (i.e. allow multiple users to work on same data object and instantly see changes made by others) using web socket technologies such as io.js and SignalR.

·   Modern technology awareness (superficial familiarity level): JQuery UI, JQuery Mobil, Breeze, D3, Google Developers products, Chrome App, React (SPA platform), Riot (SPA platform), Adobe PhoneGap Build, AWS Device Farm (cloud service for testing mobile apps on various physical mobile devices via cloud), Appium (platform-independent mobile testing framework).

Web Forms

·   Over 3 years of experience working traditional page-based web application using ASP.Net.

Win Forms

·   Over 6 years of experience with enterprise-scale n-tier Win Forms applications.

·   Familiar with complex techniques such as thread-safe asynchronous processing, collaborative UI, lazy data loading, event-bubbling, weak references, etc.

WPF

·   Have built proof-of-concept n-tier WPF applications.

Web Services

·   REST API: I’m capable of developing RESTful, JSON or XML based web services on a variety of backend platforms, including .NET (ASP.Net, ASP.Net MVC, Web API, SOAP, and WCF) and Node JS.

·   XML: over 10 years of experience with .Net SOAP-based XML web services.

Databases & Analytics

·   MS[M1] SQL: 10+ years of experience.  Some of my capabilities: complex data schema design, advanced stored procedures / triggers, performance-optimized queries, deadlock prevention monitoring techniques, basic server administration & integration.

·   Oracle: 2+ years of experience, though not recent.  I can work with fairly complex schemas and stored procedures in Oracle.

·   MySQL, Amazon Aurora: recent hands-on experience, although only in proof-of-concept applications.

·   NoSQL: have worked on proof-of-concept applications with Amazon Dynamo, Mongo DB.  I do have solid understanding of NoSQL’s strengths and weaknesses, relative to traditional RDBMS.

·   Cognos: formal 1-week training & about 2 months of hands-on experience.

·   Crystal Report: about 2 months of hands-on experience.

Cloud Services

·   AWS (Amazon Web Services): I’m familiar with the extensive services offered by AWS and their pricing structures.  Hands-on experience (proof-of-concept level) include: EC2, S3, Dynamo, Elastic Beanstalk, MySQL / Aurora.

·   Microsoft Azure: I’m have explored and am familiar with Azure services, as well as the local Azure development environment offered by Microsoft.

Project Execution Skills

·   Business Processes: I have ability to understand business processes quickly and translate them to solution requirements accurately.  Having spent earlier years of my career in various non-IT disciplines (engineering, manufacturing, marketing & sales support, quotation, delivery assessment), I can comprehend business processes quickly and envision improvement opportunities.  I’m also effective in communicating process proposals, workflow changes to operation managers, who are typically not technical.

·   Change Management: I’m receptive to user feedbacks, yet also am tenacious about hashing out implications of change requests in order to screen out low-reward items.  I feel strongly about the need to work with the users in such a way that they feel informed and respected even when their suggestions will not be implemented.

·   Technology exploration & selection: I’m able to maintain sharp focus on objectives while evaluating new technologies.  This, I believe, is essential toward choosing technologies that are most appropriate: adaptable, maintainable, cost- effective, adequate to support long-term roadmap yet not overly complicated.

·   Remote Team Collaboration: I have worked effectively in team projects remotely during the last 12 years of employment with National Oilwell Varco, as well as the entire duration with Forum Energy Technologies.

Work History

January 2015 – December 2015
