WORK EXPERIENCE

 

VMware Infrastructure/Private Cloud Architect: 7/13 – Present,  American Airlines (Consultant)

 

-          Assisting the virtualization team with preparing their private cloud infrastructure for merger related activities.

-          Supporting a dynamically changing infrastructure based on vSphere 5.1, vCloud Director, vFabric Application Director, vFabric Data Director, Orchestrator, SRM with Replication Appliance, and vCenter Operations Manager.

-          Services include Windows/RHEL Provisioning, XenDesktop, XenApp, vFabric Postgres, and vFabric tc Server.

-          Developing completely new vSphere 5.5 infrastructure with the goal of moving away from Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) to Platform and Software as a Service (PaaS and SaaS).  Will include the addition of vCloud Automation Center for unified cloud management and improved automation.

 

Virtualization Consultant: 10/12 – 4/12, Tektronix Communications (Consultant)

 

-          Responsible for an extensive proof of concept to determine the benefits of virtualizing a large application suite that is currently sold to telecommunication companies globally.

-          Included deployment and evaluation of various hypervisors (ESX, RHEV), Guest OS (SUSE, RHEL), and appliance development tools (vFabric Application Director, VMware Studio).

-          Created the framework for both a PaaS and IaaS solution.

 

Senior Virtualization Expert: 5/11 – 10/12, McAfee (Consultant)

 

-   VMware expert for CoLo Program.

-   Assisted in the consolidation and migration of globally dispersed datacenters.

-   Responsible for the deployment of vSphere 4.1 infrastructure to three datacenters in Denver, Miami, and London.

-   Each deployment consisted of 48 – 96 ESXi hosts connected to xSigo VP780 Directors.

-   Developed standards and procedures with detailed documentation to support new infrastructure.

-   Responsible for the development and deployment of the new vSphere 5.0 based standard.  Included the addition of distributed switches, storage clusters, and storage DRS.

 

VMware/Storage Consultant: 2/11 – 5/11, City of Garland (Consultant)

 

-   Provided a detailed assessment of the current VMware and storage infrastructure.

-   Responsible for the creation and deployment of a new VMware infrastructure based on ESXi 4.1, Clariion CX4 storage, and denser Dell R810 Servers.  Implemented HA, DRS, Distributed Switches, PowerPath /VE, and Thin Provisioning.

-   Developed standards and procedures with detailed documentation to support new infrastructure.

 

VMware/Storage Engineer: 1/11 – 2/11, PrimeLending (Consultant)

 

-   Short term assignment providing daily infrastructure support and assessing the current VMware and storage environment.

-   Responsible for the daily support of VMware on Dell blades and iSCSI Storage on Dell Equallogic.

-   Deployed vDR at multiple sites for disk based backups.

-   Supported existing Hyper-V Infrastructure and performed V2V to VMware.

-   Provided daily administrative support which included VM provisioning, P2V/V2V, guest OS and Application support.

 

VMware Infrastructure/Private Cloud Architect: 11/07 – 11/10,  American Airlines (Consultant)

 

-   Responsible for all architect level support of VMware and C-Class solutions.

-   Developed, deployed, and supported VMware, HP C-Class, and Virtual Connect standards

-   Responsible for the architecture and support of new vSphere standard based on BL685 G6 servers, 10G Ethernet, and 8G Fiber Channel.  New technologies included Distributed Switches and Thin Provisioning.

-   Developed xSigo VP780 Director standard as alternative to HP Virtual Connect

-   Deployed new c-Class blade interconnect standard based on Flex-10 and 10G Ethernet provided by Nexus 7000 switches.

-   Provided daily administrative support which included VM provisioning, P2V, guest OS and Application support.

-   Performed extensive POC of VMware View, ThinApp, ACE, vCloud Director, vFoglight, and AppSpeed

 

VMware Infrastructure Architect: 3/05 – 11/07,  CapGemini (Consultant)

 

-   Developed, deployed, and supported VI3 environment consisting of 50 ESX 3.0.X/2.5.X servers and over 800 Virtual Machines managed through Virtual Center 2.0.1.

-   Deployed new hardware standard based on HP C-Class blade technologies.  New standards include BL460c, BL465c, and BL685c blades.  Interconnects include Cisco and Brocade switches as well as HP Virtual Connect Ethernet and Fiber Channel modules.

-   Deployed and supported large scale VMware ESX 2.5.1 based infrastructure on IBM 445/440 8-way servers.  New infrastructure included the addition of VMotion.

-   Coordinated the migration of over 500 existing VMs from previous 1.5.X/2.X based ESX frames to newly developed infrastructure.  VMs migrated using Virtual Center cold cloning.

-   Consolidated 30 ESX servers to 16 Servers using existing IBM 440/445 hardware.  Consolidation achieved through memory upgrades, upgraded ESX software, and greatly improved standards for VMs.

-   Developed and deployed new P-Class blade infrastructure for large Citrix based callcenter environment.  Setup HP’s Rapid Deployment Pack (Altiris) to deploy Windows 2003 64-bit to BL35P blades.

 

Senior Storage Architect: 5/04 – 3/05, AIGT (Consultant)

 

-   Responsible for architecture and support of large scale backup solutions for datacenters involving Legato Networker 7.X, StorageTek’s L5500 and L700 silos, McData 3232 switches, ACSLS 6.X, and Alphastor.

-   Developed and tested new standards for backup solutions.

-   Provided secondary support for VMWare ESX, EMC Clariion, and EMC Symmetrix DMX solutions.

-   Participated in quarterly Disaster Recovery testing as lead Legato expert.  Included testing at SunGuard and AIG’s own DR facility.

-   Deployed and supported Storability GSM 4.X for data gathering and analysis of enterprise resources including SAN/NAS storage and Legato.

 

Infrastructure Development Lead/Senior Storage Engineer: 7/03 – 3/04, Fairfax IT Services (Consultant)

 

-   Responsible for the architecture and deployment of new Windows 2000 Active Directory and Exchange 2000 infrastructure for 5000 client environment, growing to over 10,000 in the near future.

-   Deployed and supported multiple EMC Clarion CX600 solutions using Brocade 3800 switches and Emulex HBA hardware with PowerPath.

-   Deployed and supported VMWare ESX 2.0.1 Server Farm on Dell PE6650 Servers attached to SAN.

-   Developed Standardized Desktop and Laptop environment deployed using RIS.

-   Program Manager – Responsible for coordinating the Windows 2000 client migration and software distribution projects for all of North and South America.

-   Project Manager/Technical Lead – Responsible for developing and testing deployment methods and processes for Windows 2000 to all existing and new desktop/laptop clients.

-   Deployment Manager/Technical Lead – Responsible for coordinating the deployment of standardized storage and backup solutions to various sites in North America.

-   Team Lead/Technical Lead – Responsible for coordinating the rollout of Shared Office Resources to all Americas sites.  Included Backup and Data Storage solutions along with Printer Migrations and Quota Management implementations.  Also included the role of Technical lead for entire area.

-   Developed standards guides for all software and hardware to assist operations with SOR implementation.

-   Technical Consultant/Technical Lead – Centralized Backup Project – Provided information on experiences and “Best Practices” from Richardson, Texas project for similar implementation.

-   Migrated pre-existing Netbackup and Budtool environments to Legato using in-house ATL1000 tape libraries.

-   Provided senior level support for NT/Unix Environments and Network Appliance F760 and F840 Filers.

-   Updated F760 filers to Ontap 6.0.1 and Gigabit Ethernet.  Installed and configured F840 Filer.

-   Implemented, Configured, and Maintained Sun A1000, D1000, and T3 Disk Arrays.

 

Richardson, TX (9/99 – 8/00)

 

-   Project Manager/Technical Lead - Unix Data Services Team.  Reported directly to Operations Manager.  Prepared plans for improving Unix environment reliability/performance, Unix group problem response times, and client relations.

-   Project Manager/Technical Lead – Centralized Backup and Recovery Project.  Coordinated with Sun Microsystems and StorageTek to implement Legato Networker and Powerderhorn 9310 for backup of entire datacenter. Involved implementation of dedicated SAN for backup of data to 9840FC tape drives located across campus. Implementation of dedicated backup network through Gigabit and Fast Ethernet across an Extreme Networks Black Diamond Switch.  Implementation of Tivoli management, processes, and Standard Operating Procedures.  Data Servers included Exchange, SAP, SQL, Solaris, HP-UX, Windows NT, and Network Appliance totaling over 10 Terabytes of data.

-   Provided Senior Level support for both Unix and NT environments in Richardson Datacenter.

-   Integrated Legato and StorageTek 9710 silos for backup of Unix and NT data.

-   Installed and configured Clustered Network Appliance F760 Filers.

-   Migrated and consolidated 1.5 Terabytes of Unix data to F760 Filers.
