Work History

Presently working for a engineering company in New York City on a network expansion for Time Warner. A new Fiber Network is being built for commercial properties in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Staten Island and Bergen County NJ. I am involved in both the engineering and the field work required to build a EPON fiber network using both OLT and DWDM equipment.

10/11 thru 09/12 – Impact Solutions Consulting

OSP Network Designer and CAD Drafter

I worked as an Off Premise Verizon FiOS Engineer for Commercial & Residential Multi-Unit buildings. This required access from the property owner to determine if there was available space and grounding suitable for new equipment at the existing point of entry for the building. The existing path of the entrance cable for the building (aerial or underground) had to have enough space for the placement any cable required for an additional new service. A suitable path to the customer was also required; if it was not available make sure it could be provided.

If all these conditions were met, using maps showing as-built aerial and/or underground plant the path from the splice point for a new cable to the building was surveyed. For aerial cable a check of span footage, the size of all existing cables on pole, attachment height and anchoring was required for wind/snow loading. For underground cable the conduit size, the number and size of existing cables had to be checked at each access point. Also the location of manholes, pull boxes or pedestals and the size of and distance between each.

Upgrades to existing plant or new construction were specified if a new cable required for addition service to the building could not be placed using the existing path. When a path for new cable was available, including approval of any upgrades required, a preliminary design was done to determine a bill of materials. If it met price point approval was given to proceed with engineering and drafting including permits and traffic control if required.

04/2011 thru 10/2011 - Findley Engineering

OSP Network Designer and CAD Drafter

I Worked for Findley Engineering on a RUS project for Ballard Telephone Corporation in West Kentucky. Primary duties were field work for FTTH and drafting as-built. The field consisted of staking a path for new direct burry fiber cable and placing pull-boxes for slice points and service drops.

I was asked to develop new symbols and line types for drafting as-built fiber, none existed when I arrived. The as-built was drafted in MAPCOM M4Solutions and the fiber schematics in AutoCAD 2006.

10/2008- 04/2011 - Welsco Inc., Paragould, AR (now Infotech)

OSP Network Designer and CAD Drafter

I worked as an Off Premise Verizon FiOS Engineer for new and existing Commercial & Residential Multi-Unit buildings. My primary duty was to survey properties to determine how to bring FiOS to each unit and determine if the cost was within Verizon guidelines. This included planning HUB sites, HUB boundaries and design of F1 & F2 routes. I designed and drafted the job in AutoCAD and sent to it Welsco. I worked on out of franchise work orders to bring fiber to cell towers and Greenfield MDU’s (new construction) in Santa Monica and Los Angeles. I work with the Verizon and City inspectors, the property owner and contract construction crews to ensure the work is completed in a timely manner.

The last CATV I worked on was for Solcom an engineering company working for Comcast in the Concord CA region, I was assigned to field new acquisitions and existing plant, I then designed and drafted network upgrades. This included planning Node sites, Node boundaries and design of fiber backbone. I also designed and drafted extensions and revisions as well as update fiber splice schematics and fiber route drawings.

In 2005, 2006 Expertech and The J&L Group employed me to field and design fiber routes for Verizon’s FiOS build in Long Island NY. This included planning HUB sites, HUB boundaries and design of F1 & F2 (feeder & distribution) routes. Field work included documenting guying and anchoring and measuring for clearance violations on aerial plant.
