Crisis Management

  Recruited to help in the restoration of lower Manhattan after the tragedy of September 11th.  Restored 200,000 phone lines in the borough and maintained service to the New York Stock Exchange. 

  In both 2000 and 2011, worked in a high stress environment when the CWA and IBEW went out on strike.  Temporarily transitioned into a technician’s role and successfully maintained network reliability.

  Provide technical support to operations during service interruptions.  Work with field technicians and managers to pinpoint failure locations and determine the best corse of action to quickly restore service. 

Financial Focus

  Member of a lean six sigma team implementing process changes to the construction of underground pvc conduit.  Changes to process resulted in a 10% reduction in cost, saving over $1,000,000 annually. 

  Initiated network designs around existing stock materials which would have otherwise been scrapped, creating an immediate positive financial impact of $350,000.  As a further result, coordinated a “just-in-time” inventory with operations, which reduced overhead warehouse costs and maximized the efficiency of the supply chain.   

  Executed adaptive engineering techniques to double capacity of network elements, reducing cost by over $500,000 annually. 

  Collaborated with material vendors to develop the next generation plug and play network.  Reduced the labor required to provide service, lowing cost and speeding up delivery time.

OUTSIDE PLANT (OSP) PLANNER, Verizon Communications, Valhalla NY     3/15 - Present   

Network planner for Westchester and Putnam Counties, NY, focusing on network reliability and capacity management of the OSP fiber network.  Responsible for ensuring that each of the units in the Engineering department make design decisions that are economically and technologically sound from a macro perspective.  Analyze fill rates and forecast both near and far term growth across the different aspects of the network to verify that service can be delivered in a timely manner, consistent with the overall plan objectives. Deploy next generation fiber optic technology to ensure that the most advanced network is being built. Provide detailed instructions to both OSP and High Capacity engineers on implementing the finalized planning package.  Special projects include Fiber to the Cell Site (FTTCS), Dark Fiber oDas deployment and Network Transformation (copper elimination).

PROJECT MANAGER, Verizon Communications, Bronx NY                                  12/07 – 2/15

Project manager for the design and construction of the Bronx FTTP network.  The project has a multimillion dollar annual budget, will cover over 635,000 households and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2021.  Responsibilities included: distribution and quality control of work prints to engineering vendors, creating material forecasts for the manufacturing companies, issuing work prints to construction to meet program schedule, negotiating permits with city agencies, monitoring the budget to limit excess spending and scope creep, and project management of a cross functional team for the network creation of multiple dwelling units. 

 

WIRELESS ENGINEER, Verizon Communications, Bronx NY                               5/05 – 12/07

Interacted directly with all major wireless carriers to successfully implement new cellular locations.  Negotiated with customers on site preparation and requirements.  Surveyed, designed and developed timelines for projects to accurately establish deadlines to meet customer expectations.  Upgraded existing sites to handle increased bandwidth and meet future forecasting.  Addressed customer concerns with current design decisions and the condition of the existing network.  Revamped design plans and existing network where it made good business and economic sense.

Surveyed, designed, and project managed the installation of hi-capacity data services (T-1 level and above).  Major projects include the implementation of a Dense Wave Division Multiplexing ring for Montefiore Medical Center, which consists of eighteen Ethernet circuits located at 10 nodes between Westchester and the Bronx.

Integral in the daily operations and future planning of the copper and fiber optic telecommunication network.  Special projects included: disaster contingency plan for Islip MacArthur airport, Holbrook, NY; relocation of Federal Aviation Administration’s communications equipment at the New York center, Ronkonkoma, NY; planning and provisioning for Suffolk County Social Service’s complex, Bohemia, NY; planning and design of lower Manhattan’s network after the disaster of September 11thResponsibilities included: negotiating with customers to secure adequate space for facilities; designing the upgrade and maintenance of existing telecommunications networks while working with limited budgetary constraints; incorporating new technologies into the network and researching next generation technologies for future implementation.

Employed in the Track, Capital Project Management, and Building and Bridges departments for the most traveled railroad in the country.  Gained experience in surveying track, performing track inspections, and supervising the waterproofing of bridges.
