Cable Splicer

The cable splicer position involved the splicing of various types of telecommunications cables (paper, pulp & plastic insulated) in various types of environments (aerial, buried & underground) in all degrees of weather conditions & times of day.

 

Preformed basic and advanced cable splicing methods using old and new methods of technology varying on the types of cable.

 

Preformed basic & advanced cable pressure responsibilities using high pressure nitrogen, helium and compressor systems for maintaining older technology pressurized cable.

 

The use of pressured propane was also another gas medium used in cable splicing in both the old & new technology methods.

 

Preformed safety requirements per OSHA guidelines involving manholes, trenching, shoring set-up, ventilation, aerial work and in operations involving traffic and pedestrian control & safety were part of every job. Interpretation of cable plats, engineering work orders and drawings in the placement and splicing of cables, the associated terminals, pedestals, cabinets & supporting construction type hardware.

 

Pole climbing, licensed for working with and around heavy mechanical equipments & vehicles (bucket and line trucks), pulling power generators, pumps and support trailers was also required.
