My position acts as a team lead for one or more groups in the operation of construction, maintenance, removal and repair of pole lines, aerial/building/buried/submarine cable (coaxial and fiber optic), reconnection work and wire, connecting of coaxial plant and make ready to work on a 24 hour basis. I am an expert at pole setting.

 

I must assist employees in the actual hands on work operations.

 

I was responsible for administration and personnel functions associated with the above activities. My position led a team of one to five technical personnel and I was responsible for maintaining commitments for work order due dates. I must include the responsibility for technical direction, ensuring safe work practices, ensuring safe work practices under hazardous conditions, and 24 hour accountability for emergency service requirements or catastrophic facility failures. I had to review work orders of jobs to meet due dates, and which personnel to assign to specific jobs and what tools, vehicles, and materials are needed. I conducted safety hazards checks.

 

This position must be responsible for work operations. The personnel I assigned to a job was based on ability and training. As a supervisor I had to observe performances and provide on-the-job training. Supervising and directing contract help was another part of my job. I was responsible for identifying locations of all utilities, including surveying work locations in order to identify safety requirements and setting up all safety devises, and determining power voltage. Part of the job as Construction Supervisor consisted of interfacing with property owners regarding Right of Way issues, location of buried cables, building access,, and other aspects of the work being performed. I was expected to make minor repairs to equipment in order to prevent delays. I authorized overtime to complete work and inspect work sites.

 

I had to assume the duties of the Line Construction Supervisor as required. Preparing daily reports and summaries relative to time and materials used and recovered. Prepare data for input into mechanized systems, conduct tool and inventory audits, conducting safety meetings and preparing damage and inquiry reports was part of my job as Construction Foreman. I am fully qualified and confidently prepared to directly supervise line personnel correctly and safely in their job performance. I can fulfill all the duties required of an Outside Plant Supervisor.

I was trained for Outside Plant Technician Construction. The training included pole climbing, and the operation of all outside plant vehicles and equipment. The vehicles are aerial lift truck, digger truck, underground pulling unit, fiber pulling truck, operation of the Maxi Sneaker and cable retrieval unit. I am proficient in the safe operation of all aforementioned vehicles. I an skilled in all aspects of the outside plant placing techniques and maintenance procedures, correcting and removing roadblocks, engineering jobs including interpreting work prints and acting as head line technician. This position often makes me responsible for training newly hired line technicians. I am responsible for reporting time for all work orders. I must also be ready to for out on any emergency calls at any time.

 

The job includes:

1.       Driving and operating heavy-duty constructed vehicles and related hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical equipment.

2.       Reading, interpreting prints for work outdoors. Sometimes I worked alone but mostly work was completed with other personnel.

3.       Working on ground, in trenches, manholes, aloft on poles, and ladders, in building attics, basements, and crawl spaces.  There is exposure to all weather conditions.

4.       Preparing daily timesheets and material reports and other records as necessary.

5.       Interfacing with company personnel as well as utility personnel, property owners, and contractors in the performance of duties.

6.       Equipment is loaded and unloaded, set up, operated and maintained, including various portable electric, gasoline and liquid propane gas operated tools. Maintains such tools according to practices.

7.       Using test equipment to check manhole atmosphere and foreign voltage.

8.       Installing, removing and shifting cross connections in terminals.

9.       Providing on-the-job training to others in all phases of the job.

10.   Drives company vehicle…car, van, light, medium, and heavy duty trucks with associated trailers.
