Senior Systems Engineer

October 2013 – Present

Responsible for architecting and implementing Linux infrastructure to support Open Source development technologies in an Agile DevOps environment.

·         Manage a combination of 350 virtual and physical Windows, Red Hat and Ubuntu Servers.

·         Responsible for implementing a Multi Master Replicated central authentication system for Linux Servers - OpenLDAP. OpenLDAP also served as a central point to control access to servers, grant sudo rights and control data access between users.

·         Responsible for implementing a monitoring system – Nagios/Icinga. Implemented custom monitoring scripts, custom notification scripts, RRD integration with monitoring, and LDAP authentication for the monitoring GUI. Also implemented a GUI to make configuring Icinga easy.

·         Responsible for implementing a central patch management system – Spacewalk/Satellite Server and updating servers on a set schedule.

·         Responsible for determining configuration management needs and defining, writing and pushing out Chef recipes.

·         Daily tasks include creating LDAP accounts, provisioning servers, troubleshooting servers, automating repetitive tasks, setting up VMs on Hyper-V, kernel tuning and anticipating and responding to development needs.

·         Responsibilities also include setting up SAN multipathing, setting up LDAP configurations on clients, clearing Icinga/Nagios alerts and mentoring two associate System Administrators and one System Administrator.

·         Perform root cause analysis to identify issues and recommend suggestions.

·         Duties also include meeting up with architects and getting requirements for various software such as Talend, Datastage, MySQL, Nginx, etc. and plan and implement redundant solutions for them.

·         Other minor tasks include creating DNS records, analyzing logs via Splunk, determining user needs and granting appropriate access and trying to achieve maximum efficiency with minimal resources.

·         Responsible for Linux servers during datacenter move from Equinix to Coresite.

Responsible for supporting a Java based agile/SCRUM development environment with a focus on anticipating and responding to development and production infrastructure needs.

●       Manage a combination of 200 virtual and physical Red Hat Servers.

●       Responsible for implementing a central patch management system – Spacewalk/Satellite Server and updating servers on a set schedule.

●       Responsible for implementing a 2 Factor Authentication method for login into Linux hosts using free and open source tools such as Google Authenticator, RADIUS and PAM modules.

●       Responsible for moving our API sites from multi-application based hosting to Nginx hosting and reverse proxy.

●       Responsible for moving one of our current application stack from a co-lo to Amazon Cloud (AWS).
