Experience

Business Integration Analyst Engineer, TDB Communications, Lenexa, KS: 02/2012 to 12/21/2012 (contract concluded). Contract employee of the US Dept. of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection Agency, assignment location in Washington, DC for the development of a data warehouse dealing with international trade compliance issues.  The system was developed in MS SQL Server 2008 and SSIS for back-end data construction and SSRS and the .NET Framework (Visual Basic) for the front-end GUI.   I was the primary author of the database design and in addition to the standard dimensional and fact tables, to meet the evolving requirements of the trade analysts, I came up with the idea of “analysis” tables that summarize hundreds of millions of trade transaction data between an importer and one (or several) other combinations of dimensional data elements (e.g. foreign manufacturers, ports of entry, product categories, etc.).  I wrote approximately 90% of the ETL code that is in use today to populate the system on a daily and monthly basis.  I also worked on several dashboard-like reports in SSRS that summarized both daily and monthly data that were integrated into the GUI.  I passed a background investigation that granted clearance to work will all confidential international trade data.   While my primary role on this project was that of data architect / data transformation specialist, I needed to acquire a functional understanding of the terminology and procedures of international trade in order to work effectively with the US government trade specialists to assure that the business analysis results of the system met the requirements of the client.

Data Consultant, Addison Search, Schaumberg, IL: 01/2012 to 02/2012.   A temporary contract assignment to a for-profit adult education institution based in suburban Chicago, Illinois that is expanding its operations into Mexico and Chile.   I was responsible for analyzing data coming from the current system in Mexico in preparation of integrating the data into the data warehouse system of the company in North America.  My responsibilities included translating between English and Spanish as required to help run the daily progress telephone call meetings with the Latin American offices.  Data conversion work done using the Talend Open Studio data conversion tool into an Oracle 11 database.

Senior Consultant, Deltek, Herndon, VA: 11/2010 to 12/2011.  Responsible for data conversion, transformation and load projects related to Deltek’s Costpoint line of accounting systems (including GCS/System 1 and Time & Expense) primarily using the Pervasive Data Integrator program and MS SQL Server (including SSIS).  On-site coordinator of a group of developers who was assigned to a complex Pervasive application that uses web portal technologies to tie together several ERP systems with Costpoint; briefed new members onto the project, launched them into productivity and got out of the way to let them be successful.  Developed interfaces from Costpoint to the PayChex payroll and Vanguard benefits systems.  Worked diplomatically but effectively to manage client project managers to engage their staff to provide timely and qualitative data submissions. Created formal estimates for new business opportunities that were accepted and successfully implemented.  Helped to write the technical aspects of marketing materials for new products and services.

Configuration Systems Analyst, Online Resources Corporation (ORCC), Chantilly, VA: 04/2002 to 11/2010.  Completed over 140 data conversion projects that converted customers, payees and payments using the Pervasive Data Integrator program and related SQL Server technologies that became part of ORCC’s online banking and bill payment system.  Mentored and managed other staff members to enable them to perform data conversion projects using the same procedures and techniques that I developed.  Provided business analysis reports for all projects that identified exception data that could not be loaded to the system.  Engaged with ORCCs development team to design, test and manage the XML-based data load program to SQL Server.  Served as the technical support coordinator for ORCC’s cash management system and directed other ORCC colleagues and client staff on how to avoid, identify and resolve invalid and fraudulent activities.  Technical manager of ORCC’s internal sales force automation program deployed on the GoldMine CRM system; managed and mentored others to engage the day-to-day operations of the system.  Served as the back-up administrator of the Remedy trouble-ticket tracking system and as a member of the application support group responsible for system performance monitoring, invalid / fraud activity detection and related problem / issue identification and resolution.   In my role as the in-house CRM system manager, I had to work as an effective business analyst to engage with the corporate management, marketing, sales, and account management teams to identify prospects, create marketing / sales campaign efforts and to analyze historical sales and account retention data.

Systems Analyst for sales force automation / contact relationship management system projects (1996 to 2002) deployed using the GoldMine CRM product primarily for Vertical Marketing, Inc., Fairfax, VA.  Managed remotely a team of ten developers who were located in Vishakhapatnam, India.  Also worked as an independent contractor for the American Red Cross (National Capital Area Chapter), Washington, DC and as a consultant for Public-Sector Solutions, Falls Church, VA for accounting system projects that used the encumbrance-based USL Financials accounting system.

Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) / World Health Organization (WHO), Washington, DC (1989 to 1996).  Programmer / Analyst and member of a small development team of a multi-user, multi-lingual, multi-currency fund-based accounting system that was installed in PAHO’s 35 field offices throughout the Americas.  Over 20 trips to PAHO’s field office to perform system installation and support services.  The software was developed in FoxPro and deployed on a Novell Netware network for multi-user installations.  Responsible for managing the change from paper-oriented accounting systems to standardized, networked systems that engaged electronic data exchange back to Washington; overcame fear and resistance by local staff to make these necessary changes.
