Contract employee of the US Dept. of Homeland Security, Customs and
Border Protection Agency, assignment location in Washington, DC for the
development of a data warehouse dealing with international trade compliance
issues. The system was developed in MS SQL Server 2008 and SSIS for
back-end data construction and SSRS and the .NET Framework (Visual Basic) for
the front-end GUI. I was the primary author of the database
design and in addition to the standard dimensional and fact tables, to meet
the evolving requirements of the trade analysts, I came up with the idea of
“analysis” tables that summarize hundreds of millions of trade transaction
data between an importer and one (or several) other combinations of
dimensional data elements (e.g. foreign manufacturers, ports of entry,
product categories, etc.). I wrote approximately 90% of the ETL code
that is in use today to populate the system on a daily and monthly
basis. I also worked on several dashboard-like reports in SSRS that
summarized both daily and monthly data that were integrated into the
GUI. I passed a background investigation that granted clearance to work
will all confidential international trade data. While my primary role
on this project was that of data architect / data transformation specialist,
I needed to acquire a functional understanding of the terminology and
procedures of international trade in order to work effectively with the US
government trade specialists to assure that the business analysis results of
the system met the requirements of the client.
Data Consultant, Addison Search,
Schaumberg, IL: 01/2012 to 02/2012. A temporary contract
assignment to a for-profit adult education institution based in suburban
Chicago, Illinois that is expanding its operations into Mexico and
Chile. I was responsible for analyzing data coming from the
current system in Mexico in preparation of integrating the data into the data
warehouse system of the company in North America. My responsibilities
included translating between English and Spanish as required to help run the
daily progress telephone call meetings with the Latin American offices.
Data conversion work done using the Talend Open Studio data conversion tool
into an Oracle 11 database.
Senior Consultant, Deltek,
Herndon, VA: 11/2010 to 12/2011. Responsible for data conversion,
transformation and load projects related to Deltek’s Costpoint line of
accounting systems (including GCS/System 1 and Time & Expense)
primarily using the Pervasive Data Integrator program and MS SQL
Server (including SSIS). On-site coordinator of a group of developers
who was assigned to a complex Pervasive application that uses web portal
technologies to tie together several ERP systems with Costpoint;
briefed new members onto the project, launched them into productivity and got
out of the way to let them be successful. Developed interfaces from Costpoint
to the PayChex payroll and Vanguard benefits systems. Worked
diplomatically but effectively to manage client project managers to engage
their staff to provide timely and qualitative data submissions. Created
formal estimates for new business opportunities that were accepted and
successfully implemented. Helped to write the technical aspects of
marketing materials for new products and services.

the same procedures and techniques that I developed. Provided business
