Kevin’s role at Vermeer was to assist with the selection of an MDM tool set and preferred vendor as well as developing the roadmap for MDM selections and implementation; including developing a Data Governance board and processes, the reference architecture (data and technical) and design and help plan the various phases of an MDM implementation going forward; with customer as the first subject area.  A new ETL tool set and other items (such as data quality tools) were also investigated as to a fit for Vermeer.  IBM was chosen as the vendor to supply all of these.  Stood up the first iteration of MDM InfoSphere tool set and suite at Vermeer. 

 

Accomplishments

·               Conducted and created a current state analysis to capture all objects that existed in the various (prod, Dev, Test, UAT) systems that are relevant to an MDM selection.

·               Worked with various groups within Vermeer that had in-depth knowledge of every facet of the Vermeer IT systems.

·               Customize template documents for requirements, etc. so that they are ready for use when the business SME’s are ready.

Kevin’s role at Grant Thornton was to coordinate and help manage, design, plan and ensure that everything was done in the proper manner to move all existing databases, data marts, ODS and warehouses from the existing sql2000 database platform to new sql2008 R2 database platforms along with new software for Informatica and business objects as well as upgrading the servers for these new database platforms.  Testing was also included in this as well as ensuring that all the proper steps are followed to move the data from the old servers and systems to the new locations and new storage areas.  We ensured security is transferred properly and set up on the new areas.  We put in database partitioning as well as new indexes and RI on some of the datawarehouse tables where needed.  This is a major upgrade of the enterprise reporting area at Grant Thornton to allow for future major growth of the company.

Accomplishments

·               Created recommendations on available options to tune and upgrade (to SQL2008 R2), the existing SQL 2005 databases, rearchitect the existing SAN, redesign the existing applications, databases, stored procedure calls and functions, develop a true Data Warehouse, bring in new servers and software to allow for upgrading the existing SAN or replace it with a new one, as well as reconfiguring recommendations on the existing SAN, and advising Sammons that they are at great exposure and risk due to the current layout of their applications, and easily availability of sensitive information that would normally be masked in some way.  The reporting environment is extremely inefficient in its use of a replication of the OLTP SQL database system for all reports and adhoc queries.

Kevin’s role at Aon Benfield was to help set up a QA Audit Balance and Control (ABC) database for ensuring converted source customer data from AON Benfield’s clients was accurately converted and migrated from various existing application source systems into the production database used by Aon Benfield’s Grids application.

 

Accomplishments

·               Created Quality Assurance framework including Unit, System, Functional testing approaches, Overall QA Approach and requirements, data masking strategy and approach, and designed the ETL framework architecture for the QA Audit, balance and Control (ABC) database.

Kevin’s consulting role as a Sr. Database Architect at Werner Enterprises (which is among the five largest truckload carriers in the United States and also has a Value Added Services portfolio (which includes freight management, truck brokerage, intermodal, load/mode, network optimization and freight forwarding); involved analyzing the existing Dollar General Customer Master and freight information within the trips system and creating a new reporting database and warehouse for Werner Enterprises as well as migrating their major client Dollar General to a new database platform and application; while maintaining the historical information to meet reporting needs.  This involved merging the customer and freight (trips) data in to the current data storage areas (database and tables).

 

Accomplishments

·               Provided project management assistance for the imbedded architect and kept the project on track to completion of the first two phases before the completion of the initial Dollar General Data Migration to the Werner Smart application system.

·               Created ETL Architecture roadmap for merging historical client data from the old system with data from the new system; as well as creating new databases and table structures for the migrated data.

Kevin’s consulting role on the ISDW (Information Services Data Warehouse) project at USDA – FSA (which has over 27 federally funded programs to monitor, enhance and support; which involves over 327 applications); involved analyzing all existing data and all FSA applications and their specific functionality (for the programs running under the FSA umbrella), as well as the processes, procedures, data storage areas (databases, data marts and warehouses), meta data and documentation in order to produce a true data strategy with a roadmap to be used in implementing the recommended enhancements.  In his role as the Lead Enterprise Data Architect, he was responsible for creating Enterprise Data Strategies and Data Management Strategies for the USDA FSA organization.  Strategies took into account current environment for all aspects of enterprise data to produce a future plan for new architectures (SOA) mandated by federal authorities.  Kevin also led and managed several teams of personnel in this effort.

Project Description

Kevin’s consulting role on the health check proposal for Woodmen of the World involved acting as a technical advisor evaluating company software, application systems, system hardware, procedures and processes and everything about the company’s data.  A final proposal was drawn up with recommendations and presented to Woodmen on the specific roadmap with associated costs of upgrading systems and software to enable Woodmen to become a modern IT environment in order to allow for rapid improvement of ROI.  

 

Accomplishments

·               Evaluated company software, application systems, system hardware, procedures and processes and everything about the company’s data on a data health check.

·               Held preliminary meetings, setting up a short timeframe project of daily meetings with all company personnel who had input and insight into the existing systems and future company direction.

·               Gathered data from systems, software, hardware, processes and procedures and analyzed all available information for producing a proposal.

·               Held meetings with critical Woodmen personnel, (IT Staff and Business) on needs and shot comings of existing systems to find pain points and bottle necks.

·               Assisted in the creation of a presentation and proposal for where the company should go next with software and applications.  Proposal showed current state and future state of Woodmen systems and architecture from an IT perspective.  Final proposal was delivered by Perficient management.

McKesson Health SolutionsMay 2007 – November 2007

 

Project Description

Kevin’s consulting role on the MMP (McKesson Medical Platform) project at McKesson Health Solutions (a subsidiary of McKesson Corporation); involved analyzing all existing data within McKesson’s old CRIM system and it’s specific functionality as well as the processes, procedures, and data storage areas (databases, data marts and warehouses), meta data and documentation in order to produce a new Health Systems Medical Platform Warehouse of information using Oracle’s SOA ESB components; to be used in conjunction with Oracle Data Services and calls to produce an efficient and reliable access method that was to be used by every person, doctor, pharmaceutical company and medical facility in the USA. 

 

Accomplishments

·               Analyzed all existing data (profiled, analyzed, standardized using various DataStage tools) from various file platforms such as Client Server and Web applications in regards to quality, fit and need for the new MMP system.  This included analyzing all the existing medical codes (for example: CPT, DRG, and ICD-9 code sets) against the existing McKesson codes and making the needed updates, inserts and deletes.

·               Duties and responsibilities included developing models in ER/Studio, Leading the design and development of Data marts, Databases (including RAC administration) and a Data warehouse for McKesson Health Solutions and a redesign of the existing CRMS database/data warehouse system into one with more functionality.  The platforms were to be able to be client specific so even though we developed for Oracle 10g. The design needed to support any database used by a client. 

·               Develop conceptual, logical, and business process models and mapped all Objects to existing Relational databases or new required data storage areas. Used industry standard UML models and modified accordingly to fit healthcare model needs as matched company and/or client business data. 

·               Data models developed were forward engineered into DDL for Oracle 10g databases, SQL SERVER 2005 and other various database platforms as needed, for use with Hyperion.

·               Developed Oracle ESB procedures and processes for data services in conjunction with assisting in the development of the other services that moved data from almost any platform coming into the system to the various areas and platforms McKesson had in their enterprise system (oracle, SQL databases, DB2 databases, the CRMS database and the McKesson EDW).

·               Data Architecture and ETL Architecture technical vision was geared towards Java Development and was to support Data Distribution and Data Migration to various areas and platforms specific to each client.  All systems were classified as high availability and 24/7 support.

·               Interfaced directly with decision makers in the business to understand, identify, recommend, develop, plan, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions in regards to Business Intelligence and Data Management Structures:

o        > Business objectives      > Business entity-types    > Business actors

o        > Business events       > Business processes       > Business systems

·               Reviewed and provided gap analysis of previously existing data models for conceptual, logical and physical data warehouse, data marts and staging within Embarcadero ER Studio and WebSphere

·               Performed Source to Target mappings for data elements.

·               Responsible for creation & maintenance of Data Dictionary within ER Studio.

·               Developed naming standards for data modeling, data warehouse, databases and the data dictionary.

·               Created XML/XSD scripts for use with a standardized McKesson file formats for inputs/outputs from/to clients; as well as handling updates to McKesson medical codes from the ICD-9 code sets.

·               Define MDM approach and vision of the MDM reference architecture, including DRM. 

·               Evaluate Metadata repository modules and their integration into the MDM DRM and ETL streams.

·               Develop processes and procedures to update the MDM hubs (in Oracle) including working with the DRM functions.

·               Assisted in the design of the Hyperion reports and the cube development for adhoc reporting.

·               Performed data quality assessment (profile, analyze, standardize using various DataStage and Business Objects tools) from Client Server, Web applications and various Databases; and presented findings.

·               Worked with ETL team to develop SQL code for database queries.

·               Developed high level and detail data and ETL architecture documents based upon user and business requirements for the various iterations of the long term project thru different phases.

·               Environment was multi-platform using Oracle 10G including RAC administration and SQL DB, IBM Unix Servers, Client Server / web.
