As the Northwest Engineer in Iraq, I was responsible for the installation of
the Biometrics Automated Toolset (BAT) on both the server and client
platforms. I maintained domain controllers, database servers, laptops, finger
printing machines, cameras and individual networks in eight separate
geographic locations (bases). I was responsible for the maintenance and
monitoring of the SQL database, ensuring that daily replication and weekly
backups were performed successfully. I provided on call technical support to
the remote sites as well as on-site support as needed via convoy and
helicopter travel. I fielded the BAT, a new technology that was instrumental
in the identification of Iraqi personnel seeking employment with coalition
forces. It was also instrumental in the screening process of personnel
allowed to attend and participate in Saddam Hussein’s trial. The BAT was the
first application to map fingerprints, Iris scans and biography information
into a database. Forensics:
I performed Data Forensics and collaborated with the Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI) regarding the exploitation of captured computers, cell
phones, cameras, video media and software. Specialized forensics/exploitation
equipment and software packages (ILOOK V7 and V8 R-Studio Investigator, FIRE
Linux and Data Lifter) were used to facilitate the investigation, analysis
and prosecution of suspected terrorists. Forensics hardware (Write blockers,
SCSI interfaces, ATA interfaces and drive duplicators) was also employed in
the investigations. Investigations that resulted in Non Judicial settings
required the submission of a Report of Findings and evidence tracking (chain
