Professional Experience

 

2007/November – Todate Expedia Inc., Washington – Senior Systems Engineer – Core / Middleware Services

·          Responsible for maintaining and administering Sonic MQ Version 7.5.1 in the production and pre-production environments.

·          Configuring high availability and failover cluster(s) for Sonic Brokers using SDM toolset and applying patches.

·          Configured and deployed a highly available Apache-SOLR cluster in a cloud (4.0) environment within Tomcat (6.0.25) and managed by ZooKeeper for use in a customer search application. This system runs in a Linux (CentOS 6.0) operating system.

·          Responsible for deploying and configuring a highly memory intensive and highly available caching system called Gemfire (from VMWare previously known as Gemstone) in a Linux (CentOS) environment. This application is used for high throughput caches required by some front end applications.

·          Adding monitoring for various Sonic artifacts through Sonic Event Monitors and using ProActiveNet to deliver graphs regarding various performance metrics.

·          Configuring and adding metrics and alerts for systems in ZenOSS – Server as well as JMX counters.

·          Proactively engaging new development environments to assess capacity in the Sonic MQ environment and patterns of messaging through the SOA messaging committee.

·          Also as a member of the OPS team, deploying applications into production using a combination of Perforce source control and Bladelogic. Once deployed setting up monitoring for these applications on their servers through ProActiveNet and LogLogic. Also setting up NetScaler VIPs for load balancing for specific applications.

·          Creating and maintaining capacity information about production systems using Caplan from Neptuny (Milan, Italy) for extrapolation and growth.

·          Also, maintaining the WebSphereMQ (MQ Series) Version 6.0 environment at Expedia.

 

 

2007/April – 2007/November VentureSoft, California – Senior Technical Consultant – On Contract with Boeing (787 Application Integration)

·          Designing and developing integration components within Boeing between different business partners using IBM’s WebSphere Integration Developer – 6.0.

·          Deploying these applications in IBM’s WebSphere based WebSphere Process Server – 6.0, in a Cluster environment.

·          These integration applications are developed within a Service Oriented Architecture framework using the SCA components.

·          Integration with the business partners is done using MQ Series, FTP, DB etc.

·          Also, re-architected the custom made logger to use the MQ Trigger Monitor.

 

2006/April – 2007/March Nordstrom, Seattle, Washington – Application Architect - Store Systems

·          Worked as a Technical Consultant/Application Architect to the Store Systems Group.

·          Reviewing architecture of systems from POS Registers to Store Servers to back end Unix Servers.

·          Establishing communication patterns using MQ Series – point-to-point (raw MQ and JMS).

·          Developed and implemented a process to incorporate UPS tracking data concerning the shipping of the devices shipped to customers.

·          Also installed and configured the software with the application server Weblogic (version 8.1) from BEA using the Oracle database (version9i) on HP-UX, in a vertical Weblogic cluster.

·          Administer MQ Series across multiple platforms (Windows, AIX, and Z/OS).

·          Testing and piloting platforms using a component development strategy - focusing on architectural frameworks, quality, reuse, and process improvement for the department as well as for the company as a whole.

·          Developed a pilot three-tier client/server system using Java and Visual Basic as clients using the same server side components to access data on the server - the server side components were developed using the new Visual Age for Pacbase case tool with its new on-line components - two communication mechanisms were developed using Pacbase – TCP/IP sockets and MQSeries - in the case of Java, Beans were used and in the case of Visual Basic, COM components were used.

·          Worked on Customer Development Systems to develop new Client Server applications using Remote Stored Procedures to access data - developed Remote Stored Procedures using the case tool Pacbase on the server (OS/390), as well as batch and report programs.

·          Undertook a mission to train programmers in India (Infosys) for offsite development in the case tool Pacbase - using the standard Pacbase training material, the programmers were trained on all the Pacbase modules and upon completion were mentored in coding the application programs.

·          Developed in-house software for Sales Audit Systems - both on-line and batch programs using the case tool Pacbase.

·          Worked on a Pensions project for the State Teacher’s Retirement System - coding batch and on-line programs in the case tool Pacbase.

·          Other functions involved mentoring team members in Pacbase and assuming lead responsibilities for a limited period of time.

·          Member of the technical support team - developed strategies and training lessons in case tool Pacbase for use in different projects within the company.

·          Worked for the French Navy in designing a new information system (re-engineering) for managing the replenishment of spare parts stocks in their bases and aircraft carriers - as a lead Pacbase technician, created macro structures, data structures and template programs in order to help the development programmers in both on-line and batch environments.

·          Worked as a Team Lead at the French national oil company (ELF) in maintaining mission critical applications and mentoring team members - trained developers and mentored other team members in the case tool Pacbase.
