WORK EXPERIENCE

Storage Architect - Team Lead

July 2004 - present

In the time at DCL, provided 99.9 unscheduled uptime, about 10 hours, and 99.7% scheduled uptime, 26 hours, for maintenance and upgrades, with 0% data loss.

 

Storage Operations, migrated from 100Mpbs Brocade SANs, DEC/COMPAQ DASD/FCP storage to NetApp and HP/Hitachi Lighting arrays. Over time retired HP/Hitachis' moved to 200 then 400Mbps Brocade SAN switches, and retired SAN in favor of NFS/SMB and iSCSI.

 

Utilized HP/Brocade San Management tools to zone and monitor SAN. Used NetApp server tools such as DFM/OCUM. Sent SNMP traps to Solarwinds facilities, and logs to Splunk for tertiary management. Primary management via vendor tools.
Used ancillary server storage tools to provision and de-provision storage, create snapshots, and kick off replica updates as required on server platforms without ancillary host tools. Used BASH to create hundreds of scripts based reports, and multi-host, multi-array, backup, cloning and presentation of databases to those hosts.
In process of self learning and architecting NetApp Clustered Data OnTap infrastructure, Standards and SOPs, learning PowerShell, and Storage Automation Work flows.
Investigating and (proponent) of VMware vVols. snapshots, SRM/SRA, snapmirrors/array replication.

Used modular routers and firewall products from Lucent and FlowPoint, as well as analog modems to provide Internet Connectivity. Worked extensively with GroupWise and Exchange, and upgraded several sites through different versions of these products. Used GroupWise extensively for Document Management and indexing tasks, and PC-Docs to a lesser extent. Setup proofing MS IIS/Index server to take over document management indexing task. Worked with legal staffs to install several vertical market packages on networks. Was in process of setting up private network with vpn links and UniCenter management through NT and Linux.

 

Senior Network Engineer

Supported clients in solving their networking challenges, particularly those using Microsoft, Novell, IBM, COMPAQ, and Hewlett Packard systems and software as well as Messaging Systems. As a senior engineer, supported networks at several Fortune 1000 firms, associations, and institutes in the mid-Atlantic area. Major platforms supported include Novell NetWare, Microsoft NT, Unix, IBM-AIX and HP-UX, with PC based workstations.
 

·  Major Accomplishments include:

·  Pilot Migration project for HUD, NetWare 3.2 to NetWare 4/5 with NDS Directory services for the entire HUD national intranet made up of NetWare, Microsoft NT, and Unix servers.

·  Researched and wrote Rollout Procedures for UniCenter/TNG Response Manager Probes

·  Diagnosed major unaccountable network problems due to router/backbone segment saturation

·  Installed and tested various intra-networking components based on NT and NetWare technologies to support web sites, IP Services, Hubs/Switches/Routers and Firewalls.

·  Implemented Emergency backup at major DC area utility following failure of internal structure in backing up systems for over six months.

·  Assisted in planning the Migration from NetWare 3.x to 5.x. Utilized ArcServe COPY to migrate data quickly from the 3.x to the 5.0 servers.

·  Wrote Systems and Procedural documentation at Bell Atlantic in support of project to downsize and distribute accounting systems onto an HP-9000 platform using failsafe EMC2 based subsystems and ORACLE databases.

·  Wrote Systems and Operations procedures and operational documentation at MetroCall Paging.

·  Supported just over 1500 users as a senior member of the Network Support team at the National Cancer Institute’s campus, at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda Md. Responsibilities included overseeing the daily operation of the system and staff, consulting, and system architectural and operational changes to better support the site. The team provided primary user support to the scientists and researchers working at the NCI campus and Hospital. In addition to other tasks, I provided support to the backbone routers, secondary and tertiary level support to other technicians and engineers and primary support to vip’s.

·  Consulted and sub-contracted with CSC-Intelicom and the Puerto Rico Telephone Company in the design, procurement, installation and training of the Force Management System. Job orders and inventories are issued and received by small hand-held devices attaching to local terminal servers by modem. The network is based at Telefonica headquarters in San Juan, with dual IBM RS-6000’s running in client server mode. An Informix database on the back end supports custom CSC front-end software. Over 40 remote sites have been equipped with terminals and printers. A Wide area Network was built to connect the three main sites in Puerto Rico, San Juan, and Denver Colorado (CSC-Intelicom)
