World Bank data analysis using Big Data platform

·   World Bank generally maintains each country specific indicators, such as social, economic, growth related data, population growth, carbon emissions, health related and many other key-indicators in many data formats. 

 

·   Prior to big data evolution, this kind of data exists over Oracle and SQL Server kind of traditional RDBMS database platforms. And the data analysis will happen through Cognos and Business Objects kind of OLAP / OLTP traditional data analysis tools.

 

·   As part of the POC (Proof of Concept), I have been assigned to port the World Bank indicators data into Big data platform completely, and perform the existing functionality over the big data technologies such as Hadoop for managing the clusters, HDFS for block storage, and managing RDMBS data over Big Data Hive and Pig technologies. Almost all the technologies used for this project are open sourced.

 

·   As a result, considerable amount of servers been released from the production environment, also production support cost reduced significantly, as the Hadoop cluster deployment been done over commodity hardware and open source software, rather expensive & exclusive hardware and proprietary software.
