Critical Skills:

Experienced “Cloud” UNIX/Windows System Administrator with extensive network design,

virtualization and security experience. I’m commonly asked to build/manage a team( or solo) then

architect / deploys solutions. Thats evolved from managing/maintaining large physical to virtual

hybrid cloud projects. I Frequently play a pre­sale engineer role, largely remotely / travel.

Prior to the “Cloud” term, was years of consolidation to virtualization or Unix/grids, farms.

This usually requires in a pre­sales role, presenting to senior management at various stages

As a hobbyist I have contributed to a uncountable number of the opensource projects over

the years, these are across the board with no pattern, many of the network projects, netsaint

(nagios), openstack, linux(smp,raid,md,etc), cywin, HaDoop w/ vme, vagrant, git, a neverending

list, but I tend to follow what new, needed, really difficult or a branch in a technology I’d

assisted with prior.

If the work gap is a problem, please discuss. I’m open to

Trial/Contract to perm, or similar arrangements to demonstrate

my skillsets. I kept learning/doing devops solo for skills, but

was largely unable to walk or sit up for long periods.

(So, learning was by video lying in bed, but dozens of weeks on

HEAT, Docker, ansible, saltstack, etc was done, providing an

almost better/more accelerated learning in a way than I’m use

to.

(I wasn’t required todo the usual lead/codev/lots of patch now.)

My Dr. finally suggested that returning to work would likely be medically beneficial.

Installed and configured firewalls at enterprise installations of 1000+ PC / multi site

rollouts. Maintained existing VPN infrastructure and presented new SSL technology to managements

DevOps / Technical Architect and Project Manager role in new engagements (presales

engineer), hired System Administrators, worked with clients to design

High Availability servers with multivendor products. Designed large scale

backup (veritas) engine for top ISP's. Company transitioned to startup, I

personally architected & managed a 100+ site eigrp/ipsec failover network

with voip phones. Built and managed all aspects of Openview traps with

Ciscoworks. Was Firewall and Security Senior Engineer. Directed several

Barclays Global Investors 1998­1999

Internet Group Manager, responsible for retrofit of sites,

multiple Internet connections. Re­designed DMZ networks.

software. Used Raptor, socks, fwtk, Bay VPN. Interfaced with external

security auditors to pass quarterly security audits. Rolled out

Chief Technologist ­ Responsible for training of System Engineers and placement of SE's for

contracts. Define and implement infrastructure for customers

and internal network(pre­sales engineer). Work closely with clients to

redesign, plan and then allocate resources for projects. Key focal

person for technical problems. Managed 13 SE's in problem

resolution. Provide high­end contract skills to key clients.
