Lead Architect across a major IBM account. He recently designed and delivered a Private Cloud solution to support all virtual services. The cloud provided a 1000% decrease is cycle-time, and provided technical agility – not previously available to the client. Lee also serves as the Lead Architect on a 7000+ server migration/consolidation. Lee has architected dozens of solutions involving a broad range of clients, industries and technologies at IBM. He is continually called upon to provide virtualization expertise in a wide range of consulting opportunities for IBM, from planning consolidation and virtualization efforts, to architecture and implementation of cloud infrastructure, life-cycle management best practices of these infrastructures, and migration issue resolution. In addition to his architecture role, Lee routinely provides expertise, solving virtualization design and migration problems with Networks, Storage, Compute, and applications such as Exchange, SQL, Oracle, Citrix, IIS, and numerous others. Lee is considered a thought-leader in the server consolidation and virtualization space – and acts as a mentor to numerous IBM architects.

Senior Consultant, Bearing Point 04/2006-04/2007

Lee Smith was a Senior Consultant in the Infrastructure Technology Practice at BearingPoint (formally KPMG). He architected large Data Center consolidation projects at Honeywell and numerous others; he also developed the logic for an automated Sizer to aid in consolidation projects. He also acted as a mentor and educator for all of Bearing Point’s consolidation and virtualization practice.

 

Senior Systems Engineer, Hewlett Packard 06/1993-04/2006

Lee Smith was a Senior Systems Engineer in the Solutions Group at HP. He developed, tested and implemented virtualization methodology for HP field personnel. He was highly regarded as a thought-leader around virtualization and consolidation. He authored dozens of white papers, virtualization Sizers and was largely instrumental in developing HP’s technical strategy for virtualization engagements.  In 2005 Lee represented Hewlett Packard in Executive Customer Briefings with Coke, Ford, Johnson & Johnson, and numerous others. These briefings totaled over half a Billion dollars in projected revenue.

·  Provided virtualization expertise on numerous engagements providing planning, sizing, implementation, and full life-cycle management proficiencies.

·  Provide mentoring and guidance to engineers and architects relating to all aspects of virtual infrastructures and Data Center migration best practices.

·  Designing/Implementing hardware solutions from the ground up - configuring switches, firewalls, load balancers, proxy/cache, NAS, SAN fiber connect, blades or rack-mount servers.

·  Designing/Implementing software solution stacks for VMware, Microsoft, Xen, etc.; everything required to operate in a typical customer datacenter. e.g. Load and configure IM Agents, OpenView or Tivoli integration, define security parameters/policies, delineate between SAN-based or local storage, and developing Disaster Recovery strategies.

·  Creating Virtual Machines via Altiris Rapid Deployment, templated VMs, cloning VMs via P2V, V2V, P2P, P2X with PlateSpin, VMware Converter, or manual conversion.

·  Implement and configure VM OS, network connectivity, and security. Install and configure required software into VMs. Applications ranging from SQL, to Oracle, IIS, Citrix, etc.

·  Create infrastructure-based white papers - focusing on the foundational elements of the environment, security, backup, system management, and high availability.

·  Create application-based white papers focusing on installation, configuration, performance, sys management operation of migrated applications.

·  Support other solutions architects, consultants, and customers in planning, sizing, building, and maintaining virtualized infrastructures.
