§ Data Centre management – Managing the day to day hosting system between physical, virtualized and cloud services.
§ Hosting: As Hosting Administrator my primary role is to set up and maintain the complex hosting environment using technologies
such as IIS7, DFS, Cache servers, MSSQL, MYSQL, and ColdFusion to name a few.
§ Hardware - Interaction with hardware like Dell Cloud Servers (C6145), Dell R900 series, HP Proliant DL series, Netgear routers
and switches, SonicWall NSA E5500 Application Firewalls, Dell Equal Logic SAN, Drobo archiving systems and many more.
§ Design and maintenance of high availability servers – Maintaining and improving the hosting system, implementing a new
IIS7 webserver farm distributed between 2 data centres using shared configuration, URL rewriting, webserver proxy and failover
cluster database servers based on MSSQL 2000/2012 and MYSQL. A partner company of The-Group is Gaia which provides
web-analytic services for corporate websites. During my time here at The-Group I have also been involved in redesigning and
maintaining the Gaia architecture. At present Gaia uses 6 Mysql servers distributed over 3 different sites and 4 crunching
machines to process all the data collected.
§ Researching and testing: Researching and testing is an important part of my job. Troubleshooting complicated issues can
sometimes require a lot of research. An architecture change often requires a series of tests before the change reaches the
production environment.
§ Monitoring: Implementing monitoring solutions across the whole Hosting architecture. Some of my implemented solutions include
Microsoft System Centre 2012, Microsoft Virtual Machine Manager, PcMonitor, custom vbs scripts, Akamai and Scrutinizer.
§ Private cloud and Amazon Web Services: Managing The-Group private cloud between 2 data centres with redundant ISPs and
multiple VPNs between each site.
§ Hyper-V: On joining The-Group I took over the process of migration from physical to virtual and since completing this task I have
continued to maintain and upgrade the 170+ virtual servers using Hyper-V and Microsoft System Centre.
§ Exchange 2012: Migrated the existing mail server based on exchange 2007 to the latest version. Since then I have been
successfully managing and maintaining the server.
§ 3CX: Setup and maintaining of the 3CX VOIP telephone system.
