Valve Repair Technician

Disassembled suction and discharge valves, packing cases, wiper cases, and valve unloaders for natural gas compressors. Maintained tolerances during machining of valves seats and packing case cups. Re-cut valve seat gas grooves. Made skim cuts, face cuts, and bottom depth cuts and chamfered edges, re-cut o-ring grooves. Assembled valves, installed specified springs, buttons, valve plates and rings, torqued and tested valves, labeled, sealed and boxed and took to shipping area. Assembled packing cases, installed specified packing and o-rings during reassembly. Did preassembly inspection on packing cases, noted measurements on inspection reports. Wrapped, boxed and tagged packing cases and took to shipping area.

 

Use of Mahr Pocket Surf for checking surface roughness during hand finishing of piston rods. Operated Supfina stone piston rod polisher /lathe attachment and diamond hand pads during piston rod polishing.

Assisted with cylinder lining operation from nitrogen freeze barrel. Assisted with checking piston run-out, ring and rider clearance, and washing and blasting as needed. 

On occasion did final inspection on piston rings and riders and filled out inspection report. Lapped valve seats, flanges, and packing case cups. Operated 24”, 36”, and 48” lapping machine. Use of dial indicator, lathe digital readout, micrometer, depth micrometer, dial caliper, gage blocks, pi tape, digital thermometer, ball micrometer, feeler gages, torque wrench, standard wrenches, sockets, allen wrenches,  during machining, inspection, disassembly and reassembly operation. Use of thread gage wires during piston rod thread inspection.

Disassembled, blasted, machined, lapped and polished seats, and reassembled suction and discharge valves for natural gas compressors; Removed springs, plates, dampening plates, and  lift washers. Checked valve seats and guards for wear/damage. Made face cuts on valve seats on lathe, re-cut new gas grooves as needed, de-burred, lapped and polished valve seats. Requested parts drawings/ordered parts as needed. Measured   and submitted requests for seat gaskets. Re-assembled valves. Valves worked on were; Worthington feather valves, Ingersoll Rand liquid gas valves, Quincy 5120 3½” valves, and Aerial valves, poppet valves and peek ring valves. Wrapped completed valves and boxed and took to shipping area for tagging and shipping. Worked with Hoerbiger products. Cleaned and blasted chairs, valve caps, and packing cases.

Operated Vectrax 1760 lathe, pedestal grinder, large blaster, parts washer, forklift, and taps and dies during repairs. Made deliveries to machine shop as needed. Worked on 36” and 24”Lapmaster lapping machines to repair & upgrade.

 

Mechanic

Made repairs to 4” – 30” sandwich tapping valves, disassembled and cleaned/ buffed internal parts, replaced disc, outer, and by-pass o-rings and hydro tested to 1200 psi. Checked for leaks during testing. Did maintenance on hydraulic power units; changed oil, oil filters, fuel filters, checked hydraulic reservoir.  Bolted small, medium, and large hydraulic cylinders to housings, connected hydraulic power unit and activated cylinder for bolting apparatus. Bolted various sized adapters to small, medium, and large tapping machines. Repaired damaged threads. Replaced seals on manual tapping machines. Assembled pilot bits and cutters. Ground rubber sealing elements.  Assisted in, and loaded and unloaded trucks. Prepared small components for shipping, received incoming shipments. Used pressure washer, hydro test stand, grinder/wire wheel, drill press, parts washer, overhead hoist, taps and dies, oxygen/acetylene torch, die grinder, and angle grinder/polisher during repairs.

 

Valve Repair Technician

March 2011-June 2012

Disassembled ¾”x1”- 8”x10” safety relief valves. Blasted parts in honer/grit blaster. Painted body, bonnet, cap, spring and washers and buffed threads. Used torch to remove nozzle as needed. Blasted and buffed nozzle and disc and took to machinist. Took completed parts to valve assembly area. Periodically assisted with in-line nitrogen, and steam valve testing at customer sites. Assisted with in-line repairs on Consolidated maxi-flow steam valves, Valtek and Fisher control valves. Also assisted with shop steam valve testing, water testing, and high pressure air testing. Moved valves in shop to their respective locations for repair and testing. Used overhead crane, jib crane, slings and cables during repair process. Buffed all contact points with wire wheel on valve parts for re-assembly. Requested supervisor to inspect parts that looked badly worn, pitted, or galled. Cleaned and maintained shop and repair areas, did routine maintenance and cleaning to glass bead and grit blasters. Daily turned on shop air compressors and bled off moisture. Made repair tags, tagged and sealed valves, and made ready for shipping.

 

 

Valve Repair Technician

Nov. 2009 – March 2011

Made repairs on Fisher and Masoneilan control valves; disassembled valve bodies and actuators, blasted and cleaned parts in honer. Polished valve stems, plugs, and cages on lathe, polished actuator stem and brass stem guide, replaced o-rings, and diaphragm. Painted actuator body, diaphragm housing, and plate, and reassembled. Pressurized diaphragm housing to 30 psi and held for 15 min/checked for leaks, and adjusted/set bench set.

 

Painted valve body and bonnet, wire wheeled seat seating area and bonnet seating area, replaced bonnet studs as needed, checked packing gland for wear and cleaned and polished, reassembled and installed packing.

Replaced tubing as needed. Disassembled, cleaned, and calibrated Fisher 3582 positioners.  Ran seat leak tests with shop air pressure and hydro tested to 25 - 50% of flange rating, or as specified by supervisor. Followed customers specifications for air and hydro tests to higher psi as requested.
