PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

 

VERIZON COMMUNICATIONS – Dallas, TX                        2006 –2014

Director–Access Engineering and Network Project Management  (2011 - 2014)

Total accountability for the design and acquisition of all DS3/OCN and Ethernet services within Verizon (CLEC). Responsible for the management of network capacity project builds supporting the CLEC network.  Designed and ordered access circuits from Verizon ILEC and 30 external providers. Optimized the access program based on negotiated cost and delivery schedules.

 

·   Eliminated held revenue orders due to insufficient capacity starting in June 2014.  Accelerated revenue benefit was $20 million.

·   Reduced Switched Ethernet Service access costs by $25 million in 2014 through network over subscription process.

·   Project Management team carried project load of >2,000 monthly supporting $1 billion capital program.

·   Negotiated 20% improvement in local project delivery interval reductions in 2014.

 

Director–Central Office Engineering                 (2009 - 2011)

Selected by senior leadership to lead the first integrated Company (Verizon & MCI) Central Office planning and engineering team.  Team performance results became the template for future organization and function integration within Verizon. Responsible for space, power and environmental management at over 7,000 technical facilities.  Efficiently managed capital program of $250M annually to achieve technical results.

 

·   Unified standards, practices and procedures across all technical facilities.

·   Ensured all facilities would support Verizon’s FTTP/FiOS program as scheduled.

·   Assisted former team in expedited facility recovery following Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

 

Director – Regional Engineering                           (2006 – 2009)

Ensured the timely and efficient management of Verizon Business’s (VZB) metropolitan network capacity, also ensuring that outside plant networks had ample capacity to support revenue growth projects.  Responsible for seven Capacity Management/Engineering Regions supporting all metropolitan areas within VZB (CLEC) domestic network.   Responsible for all Outside Plant engineering and construction projects for VZB (CLEC) domestic long distance network.

 

·   Reduced functional handoffs by consolidating team functions, reducing project intervals, project and operating budget costs.

Director - Outside Plant/Inside Plant Engineering & Construction             (2002 – 2006)

Created a team with proven performance, unsurpassed integrity, financial discipline essential for recovery from bankruptcy. Managed fiber optic cable assets and records for 50,000 mile network and associated contracts, licenses and leases.

 

·   Gained synergies by reorganizing and downsizing team for cost and budget efficiencies.

·   Conceived damage collection process for fiber cable damage/outage caused by others.  Returned $10 million to expense per year (average).

·   Maximized external project reimbursement process. Returned $20 million to operating expense per year (average).

·   Provided unique disaster recovery services on network and customers, including humanitarian support – example FEMA and Hurricane Katrina.

 

Director - Technical Facilities     (1996 – 2002)

Organized a technical facilities team that could effectively handle expansive Internet and customer growth in our collocation, web hosting and data center facilities. 

·   Responsible for space, power and environmental management at over 2,500 technical facilities.

·   Initiated Web Hosting concept to preserve network technical facility space/infrastructure.

·   Implemented Design/Build concept and initiated master contract agreements with critical firms.

·   Delivered 2.3M sq.ft. Of new technical space in 2001 (ranked seventh worldwide that year).

·   Reduced construction cost per sq. ft. by 22% during this period.
