I am currently responsible for the training and quality control of crews performing fiber splicing and testing, underground placement and aerial placement of fiber optic service drops to residential and business customers for in Kansas and Missouri for the Google fiber project. My responsibilities include but are not limited to creating and maintaining updated training material, quality assurance, safety, insuring adherence to practice and procedures as well path and placement issue resolution. I am also responsible for the investigation and resolution of customer complaints and/or damages within my geographic territory.

Currently I am working for Verizon in Tampa, Fl. through APR Consulting Inc. My position responsibilities include, but are not limited to Verizon Facility Locate contractor oversight, Office Manager, Finished Product Inspection. Duties with the Facility Locate contractors involve items such as billing analysis to insure proper billing of work performed, physical inspection of work performed in the outside plant environment, and the creation/maintenance of a database to store the above information. My duties with regard to Office Manager are to assist the current Verizon Area Manager with various items such as budget analysis, issue tracking, statistics gathering and a wide variety of other responsibilities associated with the management of a large outside plant workforce. This is a rewarding position as it allows me to continue to share my knowledge gained over 28 years of service with Verizon(f)GTE. 

 

Area Manager FiOS Operations

02/2008 - 07/2009 Verizon Florida LLC Tampa, Fl

 

Responsible for all customer installation and repair activity related to the FiOS network (fiber optic TV, Phone, and Internet) throughout Pinellas and Western Pasco Counties. These duties included, but were not limited to: 24x7 availability, responsibility for eight supervisors, one hundred fifty technicians, staff assistants, and support clerks. I was also responsible for contract workforces involved in installation throughout the entire Florida operating area with approximately 100 contract technicians, supervisors, and support staff. Overall responsibilities included but were not limited to: safety, quality control, customer satisfaction, budget attainment, interaction with internal and external customers, problem/complaint identification/resolution, etc..

 

Additional responsibilities included budget analysis, presentation development, and a variety of other specialty duties for my Director. I was called upon many times to act as Director when they were out of the office or to attend meetings and act on their behalf.

 

During this time I was also the Safety Coordinator for FiOS Customer Operations throughout all of the Verizon operating territory within Florida. These duties included incident review/investigation, preventative action, safety training, and the insurance of consistency within the work group including my four peers.

Responsible for all Business Circuit and Hi-Capacity network facilities for the Suncoast area which covered activity from Hudson, Florida to Venice, Florida along the West Coast. Duties included, but were not limited to: 24x7 availability, responsibility for six supervisors, one hundred thirty technicians, staff assistant, and support staff. My network responsibilities included oversight for all installation and maintenance activity, quality control, issue identification/resolution for large business customers. My responsibilities also included the fiber optic network between Verizon offices as well as the fiber network supporting cell phone towers.

Area Manager FTTP Construction

02/2004 - 07/2007 Verizon Florida LLC Tampa, Fl

 

This position offered many unique challenges as I was selected to build and manage the work force that would build the new Verizon FiOS (fiber optic network) throughout the Florida operating area and South Carolina. Since this was a new project, I was charged with the complete setup of an entire work center including all necessary equipment, personnel, and supplies (trucks, tools, buildings, warehouse space, etc.). I managed this group for almost three years and during that time the group grew in numbers to six office support persons, eight supervisors, one hundred ten Verizon technicians with approximately eight hundred contract technicians and supervisors that spread from Florida to South Carolina. My responsibilities included all aspects of managing the underground construction processes and those responsible for doing the work. Some of those responsibilities included the development of process and procedures, as this was a completely new aspect of our business. I was also responsible for the development of quality control and damage prevention methods that continue today. In addition, I was one of the representatives that met with numerous County and City Commissioners and Boards in various Florida and South Carolina areas.

 

Additional responsibilities included budget analysis, presentation development, and a variety of other specialty duties for my Director. I was also called upon many times to act as Director when they were out of the office or to attend meetings and act on their behalf.

During those five years Tim was a “direct report” employee of mine for three years as a “Local Manager”. Of all of my management employees, Tim was by-far the best employee I ever had. He was the one that I used to represent me in meetings or when I was not available. Tim could always be counted on to do whatever it took to get the job done. He worked an incredible number of hours and frequently would also work at home in the evenings or on the weekends. He is self-motivated.
