Experience; March 2011 to May 2013, TESINC LLC Tampa Fl. From March 2011 to June 2011, TESINC sent me to
Louisville Ky. To work on a short term project for AT&T, my job was to
field verify, measure, and draw the path to many different Cell sites in and
around the Louisville KY area. My duties included pole inspection, down guy
sizing, and pull angles. After completing the AT&T project I
returned to the Tampa office where I worked primarily on the, Windstream
project. The scope of this project was to drop a fiber feed DLC in at a
designated location and then tie it into the existing copper cables and to
create new boundaries and service areas for each new DLC. This required me to
reverse feed some cable and to determine the splicing needed to throw a new
Cross Box into various locations. I also worked on the Crown Castle (Metro PCS)
project where my job was to field, draw, and to obtain all information need
to obtain the permits needed to place the conduit and Hand holes to be used
to pull a fiber optic cable from the particular cell site out to a pre
designated location where a pole would be placed for the Antennas being used
to boost cellular signal for the 4G network. I was responsible for finding good locations for
Hand holes and to establish a good running line. July 2009 to March

Dodge reports, Developers, service orders, drive by’s, and sometimes other
employees who happen to see something going on in the area. I also
worked close with the Planner and HiCap Engineers. My job included many
different types of construction everything from a simple cutting in a cable
pair to designing an entire subdivision. Jobs required knowledge of
underground construction through manhole systems, buried and aerial
construction. This work included coordinating with construction and the
Developers. I also have knowledge of all the different types of
Permits, City, County, State, and Railroad ect. I also had to attending
pre-construction meeting in order to create schedules. Other Duties of
an OSP Engineer is to know how to do good field work and to make decisions
based on the abilities of construction. I always said when I engineer a job I
want to make it as simple to understand as I possibly can, those guys
are in the heat doing their work, the less they have to think the better.
Field work includes being able to recognizing all other utilities and
locating them on the plans while in the design phase in order to draw Permits
and work prints, my job also included solving individual customer complaints
and solving their needs whether it is a home or small business. As an OSP
Engineer I was given an area and was expected to keep up with the growth. 1993 to 1995
Hillsborough Community College Obtained AS Degree in Architectural design and
construction technology. 1989 to 1993, Meacham Inc.,
Associated Communications, Burnup and Sims. During these years
I flip flopped working between Two different careers, Three different
Companies. I had two trucks
one set up to do Telephone Cable Splicing and the other set up for Commercial
carpentry. As a Carpenter I worked for Meacham Construction, I did metal
framing Drywall and Ceilings during my time with Meacham. While working at
Meacham I went to a splicing school at ACS where I learned how to put
telephone wires together after learning the Telephone work I tried to make a
switch but work was not easy to find so I kept two trucks ready to go to
which every job had the work. Meacham was good to me in that they let me come
and go as I need. So when there was Telephone work available I worked
Telephone. 1984-1989 Meacham

Wayward255@yahoo.com Summary
of Telecommunications work.
I have been in this business since 1989, I started out as a Splicer, worked for 2 companies
Associated Communications and Burnup & Sims. I have an A.S. Degree in Architectural Design &
Construction Tech. which has given me an advantage in new construction. My Engineering experience started long before I ever
work in the Engineering field, I have always been innovative in my work. Finding faster, easier, and better ways of doing
things is my forte. Growing up my friends use to call me Marty Macgyver after
the TV show Macgyver, because like the character in the show I can almost
always find a way make something from available materials. Now days it’s called thinking outside the box. An
example of this is; When I worked in Ceiling construction I use to make a
small clip that hooked to the ceiling grid that I could tie a string to and
without having to get a ladder I could pull it down, it was so easy to make
it wasn’t worth getting a patent. However it was used widely in the field and
was known as a Marty clip. I know this because years later I heard someone
whom did not know me refer to it as a Marty Clip, I just chuckled. I realized my Telecommunications Engineering ability
when I was a splicer and my coworkers use to tell me I was in the wrong job. So I sought out TESINC, I made a deal with them and
so they gave me the training I needed and the opportunity. I started out doing String design for Americast
(GTE’s CABLE TV) in Clearwater. After that I was blessed with the best opportunity
anyone could ask for, Russell Nole my Engineering Supervisor at Tesinc put me
in contact with Steve Bell from the Sarasota GTE office. Steve had told Russell
he had the perfect job for a young up and coming engineer. Lakewood
Ranch was breaking ground and Steve was going to let me have it all to
myself. Tesinc at the same time told me I would also have to do the
drafting. That’s how I broke into Engineering and to this day I don’t
know anyone who Engineered, posted into records and cut their own work
prints, with the exception of work order package I did pretty much a turnkey
job. Lakewood Ranch had a brand new RSU, with Manhole # 1
in place and that was it. I had the privilege of designing conduit and
Manholes throughout the first few phases of Lakewood Ranch which included
shopping centers, Schools and Subdivisions. I placed Cross Connects and Terminals. In the
beginning I even had to draw a temporary Land base file because GTE was back
logged and could not keep up with the demand. After that I went on-prim in Lakeland where I learn
all about keeping up with service orders, new development I learned all about
reading dodge reports and irate customers. In short I loved my job, the
challenges were there every day and the irate customer’s, well I learned how
to calm them down and assure them I would take care of the problem. From Lakeland I went to Texas then Clearwater and
then back to Lakeland, it was my 5th on prim position by this time and I was very
confident in my abilities, it was there that My Section Manager Gary Carter
gave me, at my request, some of the hottest, busiest C.O. to maintain.
I had 5 C.O.s to maintain, but it was Haines City North that kept me hopping.
It was the beginning of a construction boom along Hwy 27 from I-4 to Hwy 92,
I mention this because it was the reason behind some of my other innovative
ideas that took off and were used companywide by GTE. At that time technology was changing every day and
to me it was silly that we were still using old forms to put together our
work order packages. Excel was just getting popular, although I didn’t know
how to build forms, I knew someone who did. Julie was her name, I handed her
a stack of forms and asked her if she could make them in Excel. She took it
to the next level and created a the “Work Order Package”, after her and
I got it to the point we could not make it any better, I presented it to Gary
Carter. He liked it and gave me permission to use it; it wasn’t long before
all the engineers in Lakeland were using it. Gary must have shared it with
the other Section Managers because it went company wide. Another Innovation I had that went companywide at
GTE was the way we put subdivisions into land base. I had so much work going
on I had to constantly push the land base people to expedite my jobs into
land base. At that time it was the slow process of digitizing and you just
had to wait. What gave me the idea was I received several subdivisions on a
disk and since I had friends that worked in the Land Base department I
started questioning them on why we couldn’t just copy the developers plans
straight into the land base file. I put Jason (from Land base) in contact
with one of the developers drafting departments and so between the 2 of them
they figured it out. After that I never had a problem getting my jobs into
land base. Jason always put me to the front of the line and I was able to
stay one step ahead. Another innovation I had that never seem to take off
was the way I got my addresses, although it worked for me other engineers
never seem to want to take the time. Since most of my work was in the
Haines City area it was easy, 911 addresses were and are still are pain to
get. But I found a way around it that 99% of the time worked which was better
than having 0 addresses, if I had to fix a few address it was no big deal,
this was before FIOS. I found out through the 911 addressing people that it
was the Post Master General who assigned the address to subdivisions. So I
went straight to him and explained to him my problem, turned out that part of
the problem with addresses was because the Post Master wasn’t getting the
Plats till the last minute. So he I kept in close contact when I received a
new subdivision I automatically made him a copy and dropped them off. I never
had to wait on addresses again; in fact I got a call from GTE addressing
asking me how I was getting address before they were. Point is I am an innovative type personality I don’t
except “it can’t be done” Anything possible if you put your mind to it and
think outside the box. |
