State Street Global Advisors (SSgA¡  Boston, MA & Bangalore, India1996-2010

(International financial investment services company; wholly owned subsidiary of State Street Corporation.)

Managing Director & Head of IT, SSGA India (2008-2010): Built and managed all aspects of IT captive that provided global IT services to State Street Corporation (parent company). Hired and led 85 IT professionals and 30 consultants. Managed vendor relationships and procurement for products/services totaling $30+ million annually. Held scope of authority that included overall vision and strategy, staff development, policies, regulatory compliance, best practices, application development, infrastructure, architecture, data management, business intelligence, support services, program management, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.

n         Enabled full realization of benefits for SSgA by building an IT captive in India that empowered SSgA to run independently from its parent company. Transitioned 14 IT functions to the new model with zero interruption in service.

n         Captured $10 million annual cost savings while improving service quality 20% with comprehensive strategy to transition from Indian vendor-supplied services to employee-based captive model. This successful strategy enabled the company to self-fund new hires during a time of economic crisis for the financial industry.

n         Pioneered business intelligence competencies within SSgA by building team of Cognos experts (the newly selected business intelligence solution) as well as database engineers, database administrators, and web server engineers to form powerful Business Intelligence Competency Center.

-   Resulted in unprecedented levels of data reliability and transparency into business operations for executive management to support informed decision-making.

-   Participated in parent company’s information security office; worked with compliance officer in India to implement and maintain ISO 27k security standards (including SOX).

-   Passed all expectations in both internal and external audits, leading to confidence in the parent company to use India-based, low-cost/high-quality IT services across the entire organization.

n         Achieved 20% drop in IT costs and lowered time for support services by 6 days per call by gaining exemption from global hardware purchasing agreement managed by parent company that was resulting in inflated prices and poorer levels of support than SSgA could obtain from India market.

n         Directed design, development, and deployment of automated checklist product for Investment Operations that enabled seamless creation of dynamic checklists for any business process.

-   Reduced process error rates by 20%, improved staff productivity, and decreased operational losses and audit findings associated with previous manual processes.

-   Captured compounded value as tool was rolled out in other areas of the SSgA organization.

n         Innovated “lunch and learn” training program after entire training budget was cut to provide career enrichment, skill expansion, and team synergies at no extra cost.

-   Developed common lexicon for client, fund, strategy, and client mandate across all business units.

-   Assembled global team of business unit representatives and application owners to govern data quality enterprise-wide and manage program communications within each geographic region.

-   Built MDM application to capture, validate, and disseminate master; conversion tools to seed data application; and integration framework to support Trident program across a 2-year plan.

n         Delivered secure, workflow-driven data management environment that dramatically reduced level of poor-quality data that had previously created a net effect of million-dollar operating losses.

n         Achieved reliable data delivery for Trident program, thus removing major risk to overall program.

n         Rolled out program to 90+ applications with zero interruption in service to global business team.

Vice President, Application Development & Head of Corporate Systems (1996-2006): Directed application development and support for diverse business areas including investment operations, marketing, sales, finance, performance management, legal, and human resources. Collaborated with business unit owners and other stakeholders to design and deliver high-quality solutions.

n         Delivered complex project which had failed 2x prior under other managers—to implement new record keeping system for Investment Operations to track client holdings across 1000s of funds. Worked with business users to understand system requirements, deliver to specifications, and overcome resistance to change.

-   Managed innovative design that addressed all business needs and introduced SSgA to the concept of reusable IT components as framework for subsequent application development initiatives. Reusability saved 100s of development hours and provided technology consistency enterprise-wide.

n         Spearheaded build-out of company’s first offshore development program to lower development costs. Selected low-risk vanguard project; worked with vendor to develop offshoring model; partnered with offshore vendor to complete work through RFP process; and managed delivery of the project.

-   Proved viability of model by bringing project to completion for $600k ($400k under budget) and with high transparency, leading SSgA to proceed with larger projects.

-   Established sustainable offshoring processes and built long-term, win-win relationship with vendor.

-   Garnered first-ever State Street CIO award given to an SSgA employee based on success of initiative.

n         Led design and launch of $1.2 million, multi-function, integrated revenue management system to replace legacy business applications for the SSgA finance organization.

-   Slashed invoicing and accrual process from 30+ days to 1, provided near-instant revenue forecasting capabilities to help SSgA navigate market fluctuations, eliminated disparities in revenue accounting, and enabled more effective allocation of sales resources based on business intelligence data.

n         Inherited and transformed relationship with group of dissatisfied internal clients (business owners) who were unhappy with level of support provided by Corporate Systems. Achieved full turnaround in satisfaction levels and garnered excellent feedback within 3 months.

n         Designed and directed build-out of contract workflow application that managed intensive, long-cycle contract process with clients. Integrated with CRM and MDM systems, enabling cross-organization data sharing and providing executive management visibility into entire sales cycle for the first time ever.
